Guests say

The Shippen in Cumbria is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and tranquil location. Guests appreciate the warm welcome from hosts Graham and Gay, often mentioning thoughtful touches like homemade scones. The cottage's charm, coupled with its modern amenities and beautiful views, makes for a restful stay. While some note the remoteness and access via winding roads, the peaceful setting and proximity to walks are seen as positives.

Reviewers consistently mention that The Shippen is spotless and well-kept, indicating a high standard of cleanliness that contributes significantly to the comfort of their stay.

The property's location is celebrated for its peace and quiet, with beautiful views and walks straight from the door. However, its remoteness and access via winding roads are noted, which might not suit everyone.

Guests find the cottage cosy and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed and a warm, inviting atmosphere enhanced by features like a woodburner. The only minor issue for some is the height of beams and doorways.

The Shippen is well-equipped with modern kitchen appliances and a log burner, though some guests mention an unreliable internet connection and the challenges of a spiral staircase.

Hosts are frequently commended for their thoughtfulness, including welcome gifts such as scones and fruit loaf. While these gestures are greatly appreciated, it is politely noted that such gifts are not guaranteed with every stay.

Hosts Graham and Gay are welcoming - along with the freshly baked scones - and can advise on walks and activities in the local area. Located in one of the quieter areas of the Lake District but within easy reach of Windermere, Coniston and Hawkshead, it’s a perfect base for exploring the beautiful surroundings. We intended to go back to The Shippen next year so as you might expect we highly recommend it!

Gay and Graham are perfect hosts and the property is lovely, in such a peaceful area. Great for exploring the Lakes but ideally placed for walks from the front door, thanks Graham for the tip about the walk to High dam! Enjoyed at fab Sunday lunch at the Manor House in Oxen Park.
