Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to explore, with a cobbled square, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells.

We had a week in the cottage back in 2019 and really enjoyed our stay but move forward four years and the property has had no maintenance. There was damp on the walls and blinds one of which was also broken, it was also generally dusty with cobwebs everywhere, Wi-Fi doesnât really work and the worst part was the boiler leaking fuel oil which the smell on the first day was almost unbearable, this subsided but still lingered in the house for the entire week. A real shame as the area is lovely and the cottage could be and was previously a great place to stay.

Beds were comfy and thereâs instant hot water. Being a traditional cottage it is naturally dark however the interior lighting and bulbs used are particularly poor. One single bedroom has a a skylight with a blind that is permanently drawn but doesnât keep the light out. No use on early summer mornings.

Then too hot if you lit the fire. A little bit out of the way you needed to drive for over an hour to get anywhere. Well equipped but if like me you need fresh coffee then take a cafeteria with you.
