Guests say

Smithy Cottage at Bowland Bridge is a well-loved holiday rental with a large, beautiful garden and proximity to local pubs. Guests appreciate its idyllic location in Cumbria & The Lake District, perfect for exploring the area. The cottage offers a comfortable and homely atmosphere, though some guests noted issues with maintenance and cleanliness that were promptly addressed.

Most guests found the cottage to be clean and tidy, with a few exceptions where cleanliness was not up to standard upon arrival. These incidents seem to be isolated rather than indicative of a consistent problem.

The location is highly praised for its beauty, tranquility, and convenience for exploring the Lake District. The presence of two local pubs within walking distance is frequently mentioned as a positive feature.

Guests generally find the cottage comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen and cosy living spaces. However, some guests mentioned issues with mattresses and seating, suggesting room for improvement in this area.

The cottage is well-equipped for self-catering, with a large garden and amenities that guests enjoy. Some reviews, however, point out maintenance issues such as problems with the heating system, water quality, and the need for clearer instructions for certain facilities.

While guests have suggested improvements such as a welcome hamper or basic provisions, there is no consistent mention of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness based on the reviews provided.

Bedding, towels ,sheets, were left from the previous occupant. Bathroom, kitchen, fridge not cleaned too.We rang Lakelovers + a cleaner was sent out. After a wait of 1 1/2 hrs sat outside in the car /garden we could finally start our holiday. Not a great start really- we love coming here (we have been 5 times). I can’t understand how the cottage hadn’t been cleaned. I always clean up after leaving here. We had a lovely week tho -weather was good. Hare + Hounds pub served great food .Lakelovers were good in apologising but no goodwill gestures were made from them or the cottage owners. Very disappointing really- it may put us off coming next year as we were so disappointed.

There was no outside light which with a dog was an issue especially with such a large garden, we had torches but would have been good to have a security light covering drive and garden by the garage. We had to remember to put a light on in the house before we went out in the evening so we could see where we were going when we came back. Small freezer in the house would be useful as we had to keep going into the garage to get ice for our drinks which when it was raining wasn't great. The temperature on the Hive needs to be set for Winter as it was set at snowflake so will never come on on the schedule, instructions asked not to amend the settings so used the boost to warm the house as per the owners notes, but would have been nice to have the heating on when we woke up as quite chilly on a couple of mornings. Small thing but few more teaspoons would be good as there were only four in the drawer.
