To the north are the smaller lakes of Grasmere and Rydal Water (both within 3.5 miles) or you can head south-west to Coniston Water and Esthwaite Water (both within 7 miles). Walkers can also explore Rydal Cave, Skelwith Force and Cathedral Cavern (all within 5.5 miles).
