Across the way, the newly fitted bathroom can be found boasting a roomy bathtub with a handy shower over, as well as a basin and WC. Make the most of warmer climates with afternoons spent lounging at the outdoor seating area with a warm cup of tea, or why not set about on a scenic stroll to the centre of the town for a bite to eat at one of the many local cafés or restaurants before taking a tour of attractions such as Stock Ghyll Force, the ancient remains of Ambleside Roman Fort, or the beautiful woodland of Borrans Park. A pleasant walk away, the village of Rydal is home to the magnificent cottage of Rydal Mount and Gardens, the former residence of William Wordsworth, and the mesmerising Rydal Cave. There’s fun to be had over in Bowness-on-Windemere with The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and ample opportunity to set sail on a tranquil river cruise, before crossing over to the West Shore for a breath-taking walk to the 19th century fortress of Wray Castle. Take a short two-minute level walk to the centre of town, or walk to Waterhead, just 10 minutes away, where you can take a cruise or hire a boat on the beautiful lake.
A bonus is a private parking space for one car in the courtyard and a small seating area with a wooden bench is ideal for catching the afternoon sun. Ambleside bus station and laundrette are nearby.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
