Visit England 3 Star.. With glorious views of the Coniston Hills and local fell ranges, Hayrake is in an ideal location, on the fringes of the village with all amenities close to hand. Built of Lakeland stone, the cottage is very characterful, with cosy rooms, exposed beams and that all important open fire, Hayrake is also home to other features that you’d expect from such an old property, including the odd squeaky floorboard and uneven floor! Emphasis is more on creating a homely atmosphere than frills and fanciness, however Hayrake is very comfortable and offers everything for the holidaymaker. On three floors, the views get better the higher you go so you may have to toss a coin to decide who will have the top room.

Small old cottage and if you don't mind wood chip wallpaper the cottage is great. Extremely well stocked with everything the host could think you would need.Location is a 4 minute walk to the centre of Ambleside and many walks from the door.Beds were comfortable. We didn't use the top floor but they have managed to fit sinks and toilet on the top floor too so great for a bigger group.

Excellent value for our short 4-night break. The rear extension gave fabulous panoramic views across the mountains with great views from the top floor bedroom (but watch the beams! 🙂). Easy walk to all shops, restaurants and pubs etc. everything worked and the garden was a little bigger than we thought. All round great value in a quiet location just far enough off the main streets. Once down in the town there is a little gem of a garden by the church with lots of seating too. WiFi worked really well.
