Guests say

Rydal View Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its cleanliness, superb location, and well-equipped nature. Guests appreciate the proximity to local amenities and the Lake District's attractions. While some guests suggest improvements in comfort and facilities, the cottage's charm and convenience are consistently noted.

The property generally receives high marks for cleanliness, with several guests commenting on its tidy and well-maintained state. However, a few guests noted issues with bedding and kitchenware, slightly affecting the overall perception.

The cottage's location is highly regarded, with guests appreciating its quiet yet central position in Ambleside, easy access to shops, restaurants, and attractions, and the convenience of a parking permit.

Comfort receives mixed reviews; while some find the cottage cosy and adequately furnished, others mention the need for better beds, bedding, and seating arrangements. The size of the cottage is noted as snug, particularly for three adults.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-equipped kitchen and warm rooms. However, guests have reported issues with bathroom facilities, inconsistent water pressure, and the need for maintenance in areas like lighting and heating, which impacts the score.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as there are no consistent mentions of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

With walks in every direction, Ambleside is a superb base for walking in the Lake District. The village is packed with tasty eateries and a wide range of contemporary shops - from useful supermarkets to quirky gift stores and expert outdoor clothing stores. By night, there’s plenty to do – cosy traditional pubs, special award-winning restaurants, a jazz club and 2 independent cinemas. A nice walk from the village centre is Waterhead Pier, on the northern shores of Lake Windermere where you can hire a rowing boat, enjoy a drink or a meal overlooking the lake at the Water’s Edge Inn, or take an elegant lake cruise to Bowness or Lakeside - a great way to explore car-free. Windermere Lake Cruises depart regularly, and also offer evening cruises. Ambleside is full of history. The tiny 'Bridge House' is one of the most photographed buildings in the area; sat on a bridge in the middle of the village. There are also the remains of a Roman fort, Galava. One of William Wordsworth's former family homes can be visited nearby at Rydal Mount & Gardens. His Grasmere home, Dove Cottage, is also open to the public and only a short drive away on the A591. Over the spectacular Kirkstone Pass and you arrive in beautiful Ullswater.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

So much needs replacing especially carpets. The living room carpet was already very dirty when we arrived. Bedrooms reasonable clean but bathroom very dirty including shower curtain. There was no bath mat visible but then we found it folded up and stuffed away under the toilet and it was filthy. Also whole bathroom needs replacing really as very old and toilet doesnt flush properly. Location was good but at over 300 GBP for 3 nights it was way over priced for the condition and the size of the place. It was like no care was taken with the place and very neglected. No welcome pack of milk/biscuits or even bottle of water which you would expect for that price. Seemed a very unloved place and just a money making business so guessing it is not privately owned.

Sofa and chair well worn and could do with replacing but still comfy enough. We were a party of three adults and whilst there was enough room for our weekend I think it would feel a bit cramped if staying a week. Lovely quiet yet central location and parking no problem. Would definitely stay again.

The lounge room space is smallish for three, but the property is priced accordingly. Linen, bathroom and kitchen were fine. The appliance instructions were helpful, especially for the washing machine.
