Overall, Tarnside was a lovely place to stay - ideal for the 2 of us. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. The surrounding trees provided plenty of shade in the hot weather, and it was lovely being able to have the doors open. An added bonus was being able to watch a family of red squirrels in the trees opposite. The one thing that let the apartment down was the cleanliness, which in part was due to previous guests, e.g. needing to wash pans before use. The fridge could do with replacing as there was no bottom shelf in the door, and the door seal is coming loose. The instructions in the Welcome Pack for the TV were most confusing. We had good reception of the main channels just using the TV remote, although there was a dodgy connection that required cable wiggling on more than one occasion to stabilise the picture. There was also a BT handset that apparently should have provided more options but it did nothing other than show a blue light when buttons were pressed. The instructions provided for this were inadequate. Further, a selection of DVDs was provided (and referenced in the Welcome Pack) but there was no DVD player, so overall it was an adequate but not very "joined up" experience.

A very comfortable well equipped apartment with great views, didn't use the car all week, walked to Grasmere, Ambleside, Elterwater and The Langdales. There's also an hourly bus service. The swimming pool was closed due to a technical problem so can't comment on that. The estate roads are quite steep so a car would be needed for those less mobile. We will definitely look at coming back to Tarnside again when we next visit the Lakes.
