Given its excellent position at the northern tip of Lake Windermere - England's largest lake - Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes. The town itself is famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th Century "Bridge House" - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Grasmere and the Langdale Valley are just a short drive away and there is plenty to do here. With cruises, boat trips and water-sports on Lake Windermere itself as well as numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village, visitors will be spoiled for choice. At Waterhead lakeside there is a short stretch of beach for sunbathing, or paddling, whilst in the opposite direction, along a short woodland walk, is the beautiful waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force.

.. Only small downside was having no parking at the property but was just over £40 to park in the carpark at the bottom of the road for the full week. Would have been helpful if more info on parking was included in the property listing. Location perfect for families with loads of things for kids to enjoy all in walking distance. Ours loved the Ambleside climbing wall, the rock shop, rydal caves, stock ghyll force waterfall and the park was great too! Overall it was a great house and we would stay again and confidently recommend to others

Ideally situated in quiet area but so close to everywhere so also great for teenagers to walk into town. New coffee machine amazing! Loved the little welcome basket for the dogs.
