Resting within a residential cul-de-sac, just a scenic walk from the bustling of town centre of Ambleside is this detached bungalow, Todd Crag. Situated in an elevated setting, Todd Crag enjoys views of the fells from all the rear windows and offers an ideal holiday accommodation for either two couples or a family wanting a pleasant base from which to enjoy the best of the Lake District. Arrive at the cottage and park up on the driveway before heading up a few steps to reach the front door. Step inside to discover the spacious L-shaped living room where you can unwind on the sofa in the evening or on a sunny day, slide open the patio doors to reveal the balcony and take in the sweep of the fells around Ambleside and down to Lake Windermere.

Try your hand at a spot of home-cooking by making use of the quality appliances within the sleek kitchen, including an electric oven and hob, fridge with freezer compartment and a dishwasher. Delight in the dish at the well-presented dining table, before you pop open a bottle of gin and toast to a magnificent holiday in the Lake District. Catch up on your rest in the master bedroom, complete with light colours, a fitted wardrobe and a king-size double bed, along with a en-suite bathroom so you can have your own privacy while getting prepared for the day. There is also a twin room which has use of the fully tiled family bathroom with bath and shower over.

The centre of Ambleside is just a gentle stroll away and offers a wealth of shops, pubs, traditional inns and restaurants to take advantage of, plus an independent cinema which showcases the latest films and live music. For the avid walkers of the group there are plenty of beautiful walks in the area, with some particularly breathtaking routes towards Stock Ghyll Force, a 70 foot waterfall in a wooded area, as well as around the shores of Coniston Water which also offers some of the best mountain biking around. Slightly further afield you can access Hawkshead and Esthwaite Water, along with Bowness-on-Windermere, Windermere and Lakeside, each of which host their own attractions and atmosphere.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

    Little problem on arrival with en-suite loo but quick phone call to Lakelovers management and very speedy visit from them and it was sorted. Whilst maintenance visited I mentioned I could not get the hob to work, he looked at it and said the frying pan was not any good for the induction hob. He returned a few hours later with a new suitable pan. Excellent service from the management company. The bungalow- great fitted kitchen, very good appliances and well equipped. Beds extremely comfortable, ample clothes storage. Great showers and large bath in both family bathroom and en-suite( these must be recent as not updated on website). Lounge has ample seating and comfy. Plenty of books, jigsaws in dining room sideboard. The tablemats could do with replacing, like all things there’s wear n tear so not a problem , I did give them a scrub and they did the job (this isn’t a complaint just observation) The garden is enclosed, great size and perfect for our little dog. Fantastic views and some lovely shrubs which I should imagine look lovely in the warmer months. Sadly due to a very close family bereavement we had to leave early but we will definitely be booking to come and stay again as it was just perfect for us and we were very lucky with the weather.

    The only thing the owner needs to address is the lack of any colour in the hall and bedrooms making it lack that homely feel. Also bedroom drawers are past their best and fall out if not careful due to no drawer stops. However it is a comfortable property. Can I also say that I’ve never been to a property that leaves no welcome pack or any cleaning materials in case of mishap. At Christmas it felt that perhaps the owner should perhaps read a Christmas Carol. So if you book Todd Cragg you need to take everything you need especially that cuppa on arrival but you will enjoy its comfort and position in Ambleside.

    The views were lovely, the property lovely although the furniture was very dated. Tip for others, take a hairdryer and hanging toiletry bags to make your stay more comfortable. Lovely surroundings, sadly wouldn’t book again owing to incline.
