Weir Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its beautiful location, cosy atmosphere, and modern kitchen. Guests appreciate the proximity to local pubs and walks, as well as the well-equipped facilities. While some guests mention issues with parking and suggest improvements in comfort and cleanliness, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.
Cleanliness has received mixed reviews. Some guests found the cottage neat upon arrival, while others noted it only appeared superficially clean, with issues like cobwebs, dust, and a soiled nappy found under the bed. A few guests also mentioned the need for a deep clean and better attention to cleanliness.
The location is highly praised for its convenience to local attractions, pubs, and walks. The cottage's setting in the Lake District is appreciated for its beauty, although parking can be challenging, especially during peak seasons.
Comfort levels are generally good, with mentions of comfy beds and a cosy environment. However, some guests suggest that the sofas are old and not very comfortable, and there are comments about the need for better quality towels and bedding.
Facilities are well-regarded, particularly the well-stocked kitchen. However, guests have suggested additional kitchenware and minor maintenance, such as updating the TV and providing an iron. The garden and central heating are appreciated, but some guests encountered issues with electrical sockets and lighting.

Located in the heart of the Lake District's spectacular Langdale Valley, adjacent to the crystal clear waters of Langdale Beck, this traditional Lakeland cottage is built from local slate and is a wonderful retreat. Oozing with charm and character this property has been lovingly renovated, but still retains much of the original appeal - an ideal place to relax and unwind.
Situated just a short stroll from the centre of the village of Chapel Stile, with a local shop and the excellent Wainwright's Inn, this lovely cottage offers a warm welcome from the moment you enter it. The living space offers a cosy place to relax and has a log burning stove and from the picture window in the kitchen, there are views of the cottage garden, woods, fields and glimpses of the fells beyond. There’s also a patio where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine or morning coffee. The master bedroom offers a super king size bed (this can also be split to make a fine twin room - please specify when booking), whilst the second bedroom is a double.
There are numerous wonderful walks straight from the front door and so little need for the car. Enjoy a walk beside the river to Skelwith Force Waterfall, spend a day exploring the Langdale pikes or simply marvelling at the valley’s stunning scenery.
There are two great country pubs just a short distance away and amenities of the Langdale Country Club (not included but bookable direct) close at hand. Weir Cottage is a great escape for those wanting to unwind and enjoy the best of the Lake District.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
