Guests say

Laurel Cottage is generally appreciated for its cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped facilities. The upside-down living arrangement is a unique feature that guests enjoy. The location is praised for its proximity to local attractions and pubs, although some guests noted limited pub operations. The cottage's cleanliness is consistently highlighted, and the welcoming atmosphere is often mentioned, with some guests planning return visits.

Most guests found the cottage to be very clean and well-maintained, with only a few mentioning minor issues such as cobwebs and a smell of damp dog. The high level of cleanliness contributed positively to the overall experience.

The location is generally seen as good, with easy access to the Lake District and local amenities. However, some guests were disappointed with the closed local pubs and the lack of a river walk, which affected the score.

Guests found the cottage to be comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen and cosy living space. Some guests mentioned issues with noise from upstairs and soft mattresses, but overall, the comfort level was high.

Facilities are well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and the inclusion of a smart TV. Some guests noted the lack of logs for the burner and suggested improvements such as trivets for the kitchen. Maintenance issues were minimal but did include some wear and tear.

While some guests mentioned a welcome with complimentary gifts in the past, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtfulness in the form of gifts or special touches to provide a score. It should be noted that such gestures are appreciated but not guaranteed.

About this property

In a quiet location close to the South Lakes, with a gentle walk along the river and the southern tip of Lake Windermere just minutes away, Laurel Cottage is the perfect choice for a Lakeland holiday. Converted from a row of workmen's cottages, Laurel Cottage maintains all its period charm with plenty of contemporary style. Pet friendly and sleeping 4, it's a perfect jumping off point for a young family or a couple who want to explore the South Lakes, the Yorkshire Dales and the Cumbrian coast. The accommodation at Laurel Cottage has been finished to a very high standard, keeping period features like the old wood beams and adding modern convenience. The cottage is topsy-turvy, so after you enter through the hall with its utility cupboard housing the washing machine and tumble dryer, you'll find the master double bedroom with en-suite shower room, wash basin and WC, then the second bedroom with a pair of children's bunk beds. There's also a bathroom with shower over bath, hand basin and WC. Upstairs, you'll find the main living accommodation which makes the most of the views. There's a spacious and open plan living/dining and kitchen area that's fully equipped. The living space is beautifully decorated and there are squashy sofas, a wood burning stove and a dining table. Outside the views are simply enchanting over the rolling green hills and you can view them from the paved front and back gardens. Relax on a summer's day and listen to the babbling of the river or take a stroll to one of the many pubs nearby. There's private parking for 1 car, plus on-street parking. Spark Bridge is just 2 miles from Coniston Water and a 5-minute drive from the southern tip of Lake Windermere. This is a peaceful and tranquil part of the world, ideal for exploring the South Lakes but also offering a tranquil haven away from the tourist hot spots. Laurel Cottage is ideal for a family holiday in the beautiful Lake District, with attractions like the South Lakeland Animal Park and Aquarium nearby to keep the children happy and some of the best walking and biking in the country around the picturesque lakes and fells. Enjoy a beach day on one of the scenic and unspoiled Cumbrian beaches nearby or take the opportunity to explore the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales. Whether you love learning about English heritage, are a steam train enthusiast or love fine dining, the Lake District is the ideal destination. Bright and airy, Laurel Cottage is perfectly equipped for a young family or outdoorsy couple - and their dog - who want to see a different side of Lakeland life at any time of year.

A small village, Spark Bridge offers two pubs. Nearby, lies the village of Greenodd, where you will find a variety of shops and a pub. Last year was welcomed with complimentary chocolates and wine, which was very welcoming but not so this year. One of the two Local pubs near by not open as last year and the other to close soon for good. Something which should be noted! 3 Bobbin Mill a fantastic accommodation never the less, with facilities as per advertised. Location of cottage ideal for access to Ulverston town centre which offers a fantastic variety of bar and eateries.

The upstairs was lovely and cosy plus well equipped. The whole house was very clean. It’s a good location for Coniston and South Lakes. Two local pubs which was handy. The Farmers Arms just 5 mins walk up the road was brilliant and community owned and was the best one in my opinion. The bedrooms were nice and lots of interesting bold games and great sound system. I found the double bed a bit on the small side but that is a minor point. It was a lovely peaceful location and would recommend it to people. Thank you for a lovely stay.

It would have been useful to have some pyrex bowls and pasta dishes in the Kitchen. We were very careful with the worktop in the kitchen but perhaps some trivets would be a good idea for people who are not so careful. However we did appreciate the excellent towels and bedding. The Sony system was an unexpected bonus.
