Thwaite Bridge House is a charming, characterful cottage in a peaceful rural setting, ideal for families and those seeking a relaxing break in the southern Lakes. Guests praise its well-equipped kitchen, spacious conservatory, and beautiful gardens, as well as the abundance of books, games, and maps. The property’s historic features and tranquil location are highlights, though some mention minor maintenance issues and the remote setting. While a few guests noted cleanliness concerns and the lack of towels, most found the house comfortable and welcoming, making it a memorable base for exploring the Lake District.
Several guests found the property clean and comfortable, but there were notable concerns about cobwebs, flies, and some areas needing more thorough cleaning. One review mentioned significant cleanliness issues, including dirty floors, dog hair, and stained mattresses, while others found only minor issues such as cobwebs.
The rural, peaceful location is highly praised for its tranquillity and proximity to the southern Lakes, though some guests found it a bit isolated with narrow roads and no nearby shops. The remoteness is seen as a positive by many, but may not suit everyone.
Guests consistently mention the house as spacious, cosy, and homely, with comfortable beds and plenty of room for families. Some minor issues were noted, such as damp upstairs and the over-bath shower being awkward for taller guests, but overall comfort is rated highly.
The kitchen is frequently described as very well equipped, and the house offers a good range of books, games, and maps. The conservatory and garden are highlights. Some maintenance issues were reported, such as lighting, a tilting cooker, and water leaks, but these did not significantly detract from most stays.
There are no mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

Lovely cottage full of character but a bit isolated via very narrow roads. . But highly recommended. There is a wonderful bright conservatory and much wildlife to see in the surrounding woodland and fields.

Had a fantastic stay at Thwaite Bridge House and what a privilege to stay in something so historic. The character and features were incredible. Fully equipped kitchen, more plates, cutlery and glasses than you can imagine! Very clean other than some cobwebs here and there. I would advise that the location marked on Google maps is incorrect. Coming in from the North, we found the directions very confusing especially in the dark. I think a plotted or pin location would make it a lot easier. Lots of local walks to pubs, but no local shop. No towels buy bathmats and tea towels were provided.
