Crag View is a well-regarded cottage in Underbarrow, praised for its comfortable furnishings, well-equipped kitchen, and beautiful views. Guests enjoy the local wildlife and the proximity to the Black Labrador pub. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the property offers a clean, sociable space ideal for family gatherings and exploring the Lake District.
The property is consistently described as clean and well cared for, with guests appreciating the tidy environment upon arrival.
The location is appreciated for its quietness, lovely views, and good access to local attractions and walks, although it is noted that it's not ideal for off-lead dog walking due to surrounding livestock.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the house warm, with a sociable layout. However, some guests mention a worn mattress in the main bedroom and thin curtains affecting sleep quality.
The property is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, and guests enjoy the open fire. However, points are deducted for maintenance issues such as a problematic shower door, a potentially hazardous dryer, and an electric shock from a light switch.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

Underbarrow is a quiet, pretty Lakeland village close to the historic market town of Kendal and within reach of the wonderful Lake Windermere. The village has a pub and is ideally placed for exploring southern Lakeland and the Lake District National Park. Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall, both with fine gardens, are nearby, and Kendal has much to offer in terms of shopping and is quite lively culturally, thanks to the Brewery Arts Centre and the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Museum, which is widely recognised as one of the best in the region. Also worth a visit is the ruin of Kendal Castle, which was formerly the home of Katherine Parr, and there’s plenty to see and do with Grange-over-Sands, Cartmel, Ulverton, Bowness, Ambleside and even the Yorkshire Dales National Park within driving distance. Underbarrow is a lovely base for exploring the area.

Very pretty decor & comfy sofas. Unfortunately the main bedroom mattress was very worn, soft & saggy. The en-suite shower room was tiny but the shower itself was excellent. The other two rooms were small but the beds were comfortable. Curtains were all thin so we needed eye-masks otherwise we woke when the sun rose. Good kitchen utensils & book shelves well-stocked. Garden pretty but wall at the back rather low & with barbed wire along the top so we had to constantly monitor the long-legged dog. Not at all ideal for dog-walking nearby as no pavements outside of the close and surrounded fields full of livestock. Black Labrador pub round the corner was delightful.
