Apple Tree Cottage in Windermere is highly praised for its beautiful location, cosy atmosphere, and well-equipped facilities. Guests appreciate the cleanliness, though a few noted minor issues on arrival. The cottage's comfort is well-regarded, with some suggestions for mattress improvement. Its location is ideal for exploring the Lake District, with easy access to local attractions and walks. Guests often mention the thoughtful touches, such as welcome goodies, although these are not guaranteed for every stay.
Most guests found the cottage to be spotlessly clean, contributing to a comfortable stay. There were a couple of isolated comments about finding some areas that needed additional cleaning upon arrival, but these seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.
The location is consistently praised for being quiet, private, and central, making it an excellent base for exploring the Lake District. Proximity to Windermere and Ambleside, as well as local walks, is frequently appreciated.
The cottage is generally regarded as cosy and inviting, with comfortable furnishings. However, several guests mentioned that the mattress was too soft and could be improved, which suggests that while comfort is high, there is room for enhancement.
Facilities are well-regarded with the cottage being well-equipped for guests' needs. Some maintenance issues such as light bulbs needing replacement and occasional comments on the shower and bed suggest that while facilities are good, there is some need for attention to detail.

Apple Tree Cottage is a wonderful old stone-built semi-detached home on the Merewood Estate, one mile from Troutbeck Bridge, located exactly midway between Ambleside and Windermere, and just a short walk from Lake Windermere. This spacious cottage is suitable for a couple who wants to enjoy the stunning countryside while being close to the various attractions and activities available in the area. This cottage boasts a light and airy open-plan living space from which you can see Lake Windermere across the fields and through the trees at certain times of the year. Outside, there are two patios where you can sit back and relax with a cool drink at any time of day, and you're invited to utilise the communal lawned areas that surround the cottage. Across the road from the cottage is the Cragwood Country House Hotel, which features a restaurant and afternoon tea and coffee. The hotel also offers a fantastic outside area where you can sit with a drink and enjoy the wonderful views of the lake. The cottage is adjacent to the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole, which has gardens, treetop nets, a treetop hike, laser clay shooting, archery, bike hiring, and a cafe. From here, lake steamers pick up passengers to sail up to Ambleside or down to the lively towns of Bowness and Lakeside. There are also some charming walks and bridleways to explore directly from the door of this Lake District cottage, up into the beautiful Troutbeck Valley and across to Wansfell, as well as the gardens at Holehird, which are run entirely by volunteers and are an enchanting and inspiring place to explore. This lovely home, Apple Tree Cottage, is ideal for a romantic getaway at any time of year.
The small village of Troutbeck Bridge is situated between Windermere and Ambleside in the Lake District National Park. The village offers a leisure centre and a thriving and very popular local pub, serving real ales and fine food, plus Ambleside and Windermere offer shops, pubs and cafes.
