Mere View is an upside-down penthouse sitting in the idyllic town of Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria. Boasting its sensational 25sq metre balcony and infinity balustrade, enjoying glorious views, Mere View is an excellent choice for a family looking to stay in this part of The Lake District. The whole of the top floor is given over to appreciating the wonderful Lakeland vistas with cleverly separated sitting, dining and kitchen areas. Patio doors lead from here into a pretty garden area with small patio and garden furniture. The room also comes with en-suite shower room. Guests can also enjoy relaxing in the ground floor TV room, perhaps while doing the laundry in the nearby utility area. Up to the first floor where there are two more splendid bedrooms to choose from; a pretty double room has use of the smart house bathroom, while the stylish king size room comes with en-suite shower room with luxury shower, basin and WC. The second floor has been tastefully furnished in neutral shades with pastel highlights to add a homely and welcoming feel to the chic décor. Floor to ceiling patio doors lead out to the breath-taking balcony mentioned earlier. Generously furnished, this is a wonderful spot for dining or relaxing while taking in the incredible views. Inside there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax, share a film or chat to the cook while a delicious supper is being prepared. Similarly, the National Trust - Hill Top, once the beloved home of Beatrix Potter, invites visitors to step into the world of this renowned author and illustrator. When it comes to dining options, Bowness On Windermere does not disappoint. Quayside Bowness, with its warm and inviting ambiance, offers a delectable menu that showcases the best of local and international cuisine, or for a quick caffeine fix or a relaxing afternoon tea, The Magic Roundabout café offers a robust menu of breakfast and lunch sandwiches plus coffee, cocktails & craft beers. Mere View is a superb base for an adventure-filled escape to the Lake District.
The village of Bowness-on-Solway lies within the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to the west of the city of Carlisle. The village has a pub and a tea room and Hadrian’s Wall stretches from the village to Wallsend near Newcastle for some 73 miles, with the walk being defined as a ‘National Trail’. The surrounding area is rich in bird life visiting the sand dunes, salt marsh, shingle beds, and peat mosses, and there are many viewpoints and lay-bys, perfect for spotting the waders: oystercatchers, curlew, golden and grey plover, lapwing, knot, dunlin, bar-tailed and black-tailed godwit, redshank, and turnstone. In 1869 a rail line, the Solway Junction Railway, was opened between Bowness and Annan in Scotland, connecting to the Maryport and Carlisle railway. The 1 mile and 176 yard long iron girder viaduct across the water was damaged by an ice build-up in 1875, and again in 1881. It was repaired and continued as a passenger train until 1914 when it became a freight train until 1921, before finally being demolished in 1934. Nearby, the market town of Wigton and the city of Carlisle are popular centres for shopping, pubs and restaurants. Wigton also has a weekly market taking place every Friday and also boasts a theatre. The Victorian seaside resort of Silloth is 16 miles away, whilst Keswick and the heart of the Lake District are reached in 40 minutes' by car. A wonderful base for exploring Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.
