Guests say

Warner Lea is a charming cottage praised for its excellent location in Windermere, offering easy access to Bowness and local amenities. Guests enjoyed the comfortable beds and spaciousness, ideal for family or friend gatherings. While some maintenance issues were noted, the property's character and potential for a cosy stay were highlighted.

The property's cleanliness received mixed feedback. Some guests reported the need to wash kitchen utensils before use and mentioned finding mascara on a pillowcase, indicating room for improvement in cleaning standards.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to Bowness and ease of access to local attractions, making it a fantastic base for exploring the area.

Guests found the beds comfortable and the house cosy, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, some discomfort was caused by a faulty shower and issues with heating.

Facilities were generally appreciated, such as the handy bike store, but several guests noted the need for maintenance, including attention to doors, skirting boards, and kitchenware.

While guests mentioned a welcome pack with tea, coffee, and sugar, there were no consistent references to gifts or additional thoughtful touches, such as milk or logs for the fire, to provide a score.

Having just arrived back from a week stay, I would say we had a nice stay but there were some things that weren’t so good that would prevent me giving a higher rating. Position wise it is fantastic, and made it easy to make a base in Bowness which is beautiful and I couldn’t recommend the area enough. I’d seen a few comments about the parking and dismissed them a little as only having one car I didn’t consider it would be an issue. The drive is a really good size but it is tight getting in and out if you have a larger/longer car (you need to reverse on really) what I will say though is that the main difficulties are not caused by the property but others parking where you would use that space to swing out of the drive and parking partly into the street where you could use the space to reverse in easier so it is harder to get on there than I’d have liked. The property itself has a lovely feel and the furnishings are of good quality, the beds were nice and comfy but some things were looking a bit tatty and it was a little tired in places. It is however, an old house with a high turnover of guests so that is to be considered. When we arrived the boiler wasn’t working and had an error message on it, it just needed resetting in the end but that took some time to dig out a manual to resolve it so we could get heating and hot water which wasn’t ideal after a long travel day. The biggest concern though for us was the shower, I think there was a fault on the thermostat as it was excessively hot no matter what we did with it. Just went from hot to hotter and it was impossible to stand under it. Barely anything came out of the handheld shower head which I was using to try and regulate the temperature so we gave up and made use of the bath instead but it was disappointing to not be able to use everything as we would have liked. The gas fire in the kitchen we also couldn’t get to light which was a shame as that would have really cosied up the downstairs area if we could have had it on (I could have lit the log burner in the lounge but personally, I have no experience with them so opted not to)All in all I would say that it is a lovely house just needs a little TLC, overall we had a comfortable enough stay and like I said at the beginning the location was perfect for us. We had a nice relaxing week in spite of any of the bits we encountered and I’m sure these can be resolved easily enough.

Location was excellent. Kitchen utensils had not been checked as had to wash all utensils before they could be used. I have stayed in at least 10 cottages all over the UK this is the first time there was not pint of milk for a drink on arrival. There was mascara on the pillowcase in one of the bedrooms.

Most things about the house were very good, great location, cosy house, spacious bedrooms, handy bike store (which we needed) etc. Only issue is that a few areas require attention, i.e. one of the bedroom doors wouldn't close, bathroom door with big gap at bottom, W.C door with frosted glass (needs a curtain or boarding), huge cracks in some skirting boards, some of the pans require replacing. A little bit of TLC and would be excellent.
