Guests say

Gillercombe is a well-liked holiday cottage in Windermere, praised for its excellent location and overall comfort. Guests appreciate its proximity to local amenities and the added bonus of pool access. While some guests have reported issues with cleanliness and maintenance, others have found the property spotless and well-equipped. The property seems to cater well to families and groups, offering a cosy and welcoming atmosphere.

Reviews on cleanliness are mixed, with several guests finding the property spotless, while others reported issues with grime and maintenance. The negative comments suggest room for improvement, but the positive feedback indicates that the property can meet high standards of cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for being central, quiet, and within walking distance to Bowness, Windermere, and lake activities. The convenience of the location is consistently noted as a positive aspect of the property.

Comfort receives positive remarks for the property's cosy and home-like feel. However, some guests noted that the living room was small for the number of people and that some beds and seating could be more supportive, indicating that while generally comfortable, there is room for improvement.

Facilities are generally appreciated, especially the pool access and well-equipped kitchen. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as a non-working dishwasher and shower pressure problems, suggesting that while facilities are good, they require better upkeep.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as there are no consistent mentions of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, while some guests received a bottle of Champagne for an inconvenience, it is not possible to determine a pattern or expectation of thoughtfulness.

Unfortunately, there were quite a few hiccups! The dishwasher was filthy and turned out it was not working at all and obviously, whoever cleaned up the accommodation before us did not check that the dishwasher was not working. We phoned the property management on the morning of the second day. They said they would send someone to check in the afternoon (while we were out), but did not call us what they have found. So in the late afternoon, we had to call them back to check if someone had been to investigate. We were informed that they will contact the property owner about this and there is nothing that can be done during our visit. What made me unhappy te most was that there were no apologies at all at any point regarding the non-functional dishwasher. The properpy might not belong to the management, but they represent and were hired by the property owner, so an apology is expected. The chrome on the showerhead in the King-sized bedroom had peeled off (old) and gave one of us a deep cut on the thumb. On the second day, we had no hot water at all for hours and hours. One of the children had to be cleaned desperately and had no choice but to have a very quick dip in the ice-cold bath!!! The hot water is finally back on when one of us checked the boiler and had to press a button to sort of reset it or make it work again. This property needs to renew some of its facilities and desperately need a proper maintenance!!!
