The Gatehouse is an immersive countryside retreat that provides pastoral views over the parkland at the north-eastern boundary of Little Massingham House estate. Only a short drive from Sandringham and the North Norfolk coast, and with a couple of exceptional pubs nearby, this is an excellent choice for a small family or for a couple that are looking for a quieter spot in the rural Norfolk countryside.
While traditional, in terms of the location and in the nature of the building, the owners have gone to great lengths to provide the modern comforts that help to make this a wonderful home-from-home. Comfortable beds that have been dressed in white linens await, while the sitting room provides an eclectic place to relax on the cooler, darker autumnal evenings. The ground floor also includes a large dining room that gives way to the kitchen. Direct access to the garden is provided via the kitchen door.
Outside, this generous detached two bedroom property stands as lone sentry at the entrance of Little Massingham estate. Beyond the garden fence, the old estate stretches out for over 200 acres. Those paying attention may spot a wide variety of interesting species that rely upon a landscape that includes ancient woodland, grazing pasture, wildflower meadows and wetland. Simply pulling up a chair in the garden gives guests a wonderful view over the park, where you may see Barn Owls and Kestrels hunting or high above, Buzzards and Red Kites circling on the thermals. The garden is enclosed and provides and outdoor dining set and charcoal barbecue. Off-road parking for two cars.
The nearby village of Great Massingham is just down the road, where you’ll find the village's award-winning local pub, The Dabbllng Duck. In the other direction, The Rose and Crown in Little Massingham also provides excellent meals and real ale in a traditional pub setting.

If you are after a quiet break with no neighbours with wildlife all around, then the Gatehouse is for you and your dog. All clean neat and tidy...we loved it, and so did Tilly our dog in secure garden. Will go again, thank you.

The Gatehouse was a lovely cottage, we loved the interior and quality, the lovely scented hand wash was a nice touch. The spacious secure garden was ideal for our Golden Retrievers who are used to a farm at home. Looking out at the Longhorn cows and calves was a treat. When they were away from the property in another field it was nice to walk up the track past Little Massingham House which comes out on the lanes for a short circular walk back down past the church and through the little gate at the side of the field opposite the Church. The Gatehouse made a good base for exploring North Norfolk. Our favourite doggy places were Sandringham Park Woods, Old Hunstanton Beach where there is the Old Beach Cafe and The Mariner Pub that welcome dogs. A little further to drive but well worth it is of course Holkham Hall Estate and the fabulous beach. We ate at the Dabbling Duck a couple of times in Great Massingham which was really nice and a stroll around the village and lakes afterwards. Nice little local shop at the Post Office Gt Massingham and the mobile Fish and Chips van. Oliver at the house was very accommodating and helpful. We loved it and will be back.

Great location for a quiet getaway in a lovely, roomy & comfortable house. The enclosed 360 degree garden was thoroughly enjoyed by our 2 dogs and the 2 humans!! Over 2,000 acres to explore on the estate with plenty of animals and birds to admire. All in all would definitely recommend The Gatehouse and we would visit again in a heartbeat!!
