We were put here, as our original booking had a boiler problem. We booked a spa resort, which obviously had pool, gym, sauna and hot tubs, restaurant and bar. We were moved to walnut cottage, which is literally in the middle of nowhere! The village had no shops or pubs nothing at all. We had booked with friends, who were at the spa, so we had to drive 10 mins to get to them every day. The cottage, was more of a stable conversion, than a cottage. It was clean except for cobwebs, and there were a lot of ants. There was no extractor fan, and the kitchen window was very deep set and couldn’t be reached to open. Over all it was comfortable and spacious for two, though it had two bedrooms, it would be fine for a young family. Not four adults, as only one 2 seater sofa. We did meet one member of staff, who was very pleasant. Though other than that we were the only people there. This place would suit someone who wants to escape everything and just relax, there is a river to walk along, and the site is used for wedding venues, and does have some pitched glamping tents in a nearby field. So, I would imagine if you’d booked the cottage for escapism, if there was a wedding it could be noisy. Access to the cottage is up a rough dirt track, and you park in a car park out of sight from the cottage. We could drive round to unload the car, though you still have to walk and carry your luggage over gravel to get to the cottage, two steps up to the cottage, so it wouldn’t suit people with any disabilities, for access. There was a small outdoor space, though no table and chairs, and hard wooden built in benches, that would have benefited from outdoor cushions. It had no outlook either side of the cottage. It did have basic equipment, and a very powerful shower, which was nice.

We had a lovely stay in Walnut Cottage. The cottage is in very peaceful surroundings which was perfect for a few quiet days away. Parts of the cottage needed a little TLC - blinds and shower door were a little broken and the bathroom in particular was in need of a good clean but nothing that impacted our stay. That being said we did have a great time and pleased we stayed here.
