And, yes, you could play Nirvana (or Tchaikovsky for that matter) very loud, because there may very well be no one else around to hear.

Constructed in 2017/18, Shangri-La sprang to life from the footprint of what was a typical beach-side 'shack' and, under the keen eye of award-winning Mole Architects, has been re-interpreted into the contemporary, low-key, environmentally-aware stunning piece of art now standing in its place. This striking house wouldn't look out of place on the Pacific coastline, but it looks just as fine nestled beside the sand dunes of wonderful Waxham beach.

Inside this PassivHaus (it heats itself), you will find the latest technology and design features; fumed engineered oak flooring, washed plywood walls, wash (stage) lighting uplighters alongside eclectic modern light fittings. Reclaimed beach hut 'jigsaw' feature walls add interest and a splash of colour, high vaulted ceilings create a feeling of space and light floods in from the expansive glazing on the south-facing elevation affording sublime long distance views across the coastal plain towards the Broads. The main living accommodation is an open plan living space, comprising kitchen, dining and relaxing areas with sliding doors to the patio. There is a small, separate TV/kids room as well as a utility area. Two of the three generous-sized bedrooms have glazed doors onto the covered terrace, and there are two bathrooms, one of which one is en suite. The icing on the cake? Open the windows and doors and you can hear the sea as waves roll onto the nearby beach.

Shangri-La sits in extensive grounds of around an acre which have been landscaped to combine manicured lawn alongside grass meadow areas. Trees and shrubs surround the garden and are a magnet for birds who happily set up home here, and their song is always evident. A private gateway takes you through to the path that leads over the dunes to the beach which stretches as far as the eye can see.
