This delightful semi-detached cottage is set on the gently rolling county border in the Waveney Valley between Norfolk and Suffolk. Fox Cottage is a Victorian restoration of a 17th century farmhouse and has been carefully renovated to maintain and protect its period features, with a perfect mix of beamed walls and light, airy rooms which will appeal to those looking for historical charm. The property boasts a large, bright and spacious kitchen/dining room and a light filled bathroom.
Fox Cottage merits a mention in an 1860s book written about the village of Wortham by its then vicar and well known British writer, Reverend Richard Cobbold. The ‘Ling’, an old regional word for heather, on which it sits hasn’t changed since his day, apart from the finish on the roads.
Perfectly situated for those looking to explore both Norfolk and Suffolk, you will find Fox Cottage to be the perfect place to put your feet up after a busy day, located in the sleepy village of Wortham.
Within an hour you can be in Norwich with its Norman castle, Ipswich with its pretty marina, Ely with its magnificent cathedral or the university city of Cambridge. Many of these can be reached by train with a railway station just under 4 miles away in the ancient and much photographed market town of Diss. Here you will find lots of lovely places to eat, drink and shop. For a change of pace, head to Thetford Forest for the Go Ape adventure park, or visit the magnificent coastline. Southwold is only 50 minutes away and from here you can explore the fabulous Suffolk coast. Nearby also lies Banham Zoo, Bressingham Steam and Gardens museum and Redgrave and Lopham Fens Nature Reserve.
Don’t leave Fox Cottage without going for a walk on the stunning heathland. This 115-acre Site of Special Scientific Interest is home to an abundance of wildlife so be sure to have your camera handy. There is so much to do, you will be ready for a great night’s sleep when you return to Fox Cottage.
The owner is a Roux Brothers trained chef and food courses are available at the property (bookable directly with the owner). Shop, pub and restaurant 1¼ miles.
