On the boundary of Northumberland and Cumbria, Gilsland is a little community with two pubs and a tea room. The Eden Valley, the Scottish Borders, the north Pennines, and even as far south west as the Lake District National Park are all easily accessible from its Hadrian's Wall location. About 10 miles of Gilsland are Vindolanda, known for its reconstruction of a Roman village and its parchment inscriptions, and Housesteads Roman Fort. Blenkinsopp, Thirlwall, Bellister, and Bewcastle are just a few of the nearby castle remains. It takes only 15 minutes to get to the charming market town of Brampton, and it takes 30 minutes to get to Carlisle. Visit Cumbria or the Lake District National Park for a fantastic day excursion. Wide panoramic views of the Roman Wall, which follows the Whin Sill cliff, and other beautiful landscapes make this tranquil region of England a treat for walkers and cyclists.

2 bathrooms offer both ground floor facilities as well as one en suite on the top floor. A Smart TV with basic Sky package and Sport is a bonus too in the first floor lounge, with patio doors to enjoy the fresh air and countryside views. Both a Washer/Dryer and a dishwasher are provided so all the utilities are covered. Maybe a few hooks on the back of doors or some towel rails would be a handy addition. Right on the border of Cumbria and Northumberland Gilsland is a perfect central location for reaching all the best places. With Hadrians Wall right in the heart of the village there are walks straight from the door. And all the best attractions of the wall including Sycamore Gap, Housesteads and Haltwistle are only a short drive away. The Lakes are about an hour away or go east towards Kielder and beyond. A visit to Hexham and Corbridge can be recommended. The local Community Pub The Samson which is only minutes along the road offers good food from Wed-Sun. And thereâs a tea room on the green. Further afield for eating out, to the west thereâs the village of Brampton, and to the east is the Twice Brewed Inn. We had a comfortable stay in very warm surroundings and had an excellent week exploring. The only slight issue would be the attached neighbours occasionally heard through thin walls. Overall a very good value convenient holiday home with very friendly and helpful owners who are easy to contact.

The owners provide a good range of amenities for ease during your stay. A good local pub, very close to Hadrian's Wall, vindolanda, good transport links, easy driving distance to Hexham, Haltwhistle or Brampton. The area hosts a wealth of historic places to visit. A highly recommended home for anyone looking to explore the Northumberland and Cumbria border.

With a usable kitchen, so can eat in if need be. Perfect for visiting Northumberlands attractions, especially Hadrians Wall and the Kielder Forest. Great places to eat close by were the Greenland Hotel and the Milecastle Inn.
