We had issues getting access on arrival as we'd been given the code for the key safe but not the gate. The owner didn't answer calls or respond to messages so we had to contact cottages.com for them to make contact. When we got in, the lodge seemed lovely, however it quickly became apparent that the busy road next to the lodge might be problematic. The fridge provided is tiny and we struggled to fit in the food that we had brought. As we started to unpack we discovered that there are no drawers for underwear etc and only a few coat hangers in the wardrobe. The bathroom appears stunning but when having a shower, there is no shower screen and the water went all over the polished tiled floor... the window in the bathroom doesn't open to air this out and the tiles were incredibly slippy. The hot tub is lovely but again next to the busy road so not very relaxing and it wasn't very clean. The lodge looks like it's been rushed to be opened... lots of things weren't done very well, eg the TV on the wall in the lounge is ridiculously wonky! The garden is a sun trap so that was nice when the weather was decent. Unfortunately the road noise meant we didn't sleep very well despite the very comfortable bed. When lorries went past the whole lodge shook! Some of the issues we had could easily be rectified but unfortunately the road noise would put us off returning

We had a fabulous weekend stay at Ashtree Hideaway. It's very comfortable and well equipped. The garden is private and we had good weather, so it was lovely to sit out. The hot-tub was great, tucked into a corner of the garden. It's in one of our favourite areas to visit, an easy drive to the coast or into Durham - I think we'll be back!
