Between Wolsingham and Stanhope on the A689 in Upper Weardale, this detached 18th-century holiday cottage stands just off the main street of this attractive village on the same site as property ref. 12772. Surrounded by the eastern flanks of the Pennines. Centrally placed for Teesdale and the Yorkshire Dales, there are many places of interest, Hamsterley Forest, Beamish Open Air Museum, Kilhope Wheel once the centre of the lead mining industry besides fishing on the local reservoirs, riding within 3 miles, and glorious walking on the moors. Shop and pub 70 yards.

The cottage is well equipped and well positioned for walking and trips around the areas. We didn't visit the pub but did use the village fish & chips shop which was quite nice although a little expensive. We found the cottage quite 'sterile' in comparison to other cottages we've stayed in and not particularly homely especially the lounge. There are no hooks in any rooms especially the bathroom where you perhaps need them a little more and the shower cubicle. The bathroom also needs an update. The photos on this site need updating. The photo of the actual cottage I think is misleading as is looks like your on a road rather than right next door to a caravan site and overlooked by the houses opposite. The lounge also looks different to the photos. The bedrooms are fine and beds are okay.Cleanliness...had we not found a large piece of dog poo in the lounge( which you just couldn't have missed) and which we had to remove then I would have said it was fine but evidently it hadn't been cleaned before our arrival. It was even more disappointing when I telephoned the owned and got offered carpet cleaner!I noticed in a previous post about the lack of a visitor book which is a shame, but I think they have their reasons... aswell a lack of reviews...The cottage didn't spoil our holiday it just isn't what we expected from the photos and prior experience.To sum up I don't think I would recommend it to a friend, sorry,. The area though I would! Raby castle and gardens is great for all. Beamish has got bigger since we last went and is just as good!

nice village ,property clean and tidy,let down with a few little things,bathroom shower -no ledge to put toiletries had to put on the shower floor,saucepans in kitchen need replacing as everyone bevelled on bottom ,had to buy saucepan to use,also no visitors book to say how found the accomodation or visitor info about local amenities.
