To the rear of the property, you’ll find a private patio area with a wonderful hot tub, BBQ, and garden furniture, ideal for enjoying the outdoors and relaxing after a day of adventure.
Westgate itself is a charming village in Weardale, set within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a region known for its rolling hills, dramatic moorlands, and breathtaking scenery. The area is a paradise for walkers and nature lovers, with numerous trails and routes to explore. The Weardale Way, which passes through Westgate, is a popular long-distance walking route offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
Nearby, Slitt Wood and West Rigg Open Cutting provide a fascinating mix of industrial heritage and woodland beauty, perfect for a scenic hike. Having paying a lot of money for three nights at this cottage, it was quite disappointing upon arrival. There was no toilet roll, very little wood for the fire (only 2 pieces which lasted us one night), the bbq was dirty and the sink in the kitchen kept blocking which took a lot of time to unblock. The area which it was situated was lovely, very scenic, if you’re after peace and quiet. The hot tub was relaxing despite parts of it coming off in the water and the garden could have done with a tidy up.
