The Langley is a modern apartment located in the 52 Old Elvet Builsing. Sleeping up to four guests, this expertly desgined space is perfect for sharing a short break with your loved ones.
Throughout the past 310 years, nestled under the watchful gaze of Durham Cathedral, many esteemed guests (including Her Majesty The Queen) have enjoyed the timeless elegance of 52 Old Elvet and revelled in its unparalleled history. The Langley provides a truly luxurious stay, perfect for business or leisure. Named as‘One of the Best Cities to Visit ’ in recent years, Durham is a beautiful and charming area within the North East. Known as the ‘perfect little city’, Durham has the best mix of everything and it all blends seamlessly. It retains its medieval heritage but it also has a modern and vibrant twist. It boasts lush green landscapes but it also has busy cobbled streets with independent shops, bars and restaurants.
Durham has plenty of history within its walls. One of the most spectacular historic sites is Durham Cathedral. Constructed between 1903 and 1133, this towering building is a shining example of Norman architecture. The cathedral is now the oldest surviving building with a stone vaulted ceiling of such a large scale. 52 Old Elvet is located in the city centre with cafes, restaurants, shops and bars right on the doorstep.
Durham train station is a 15-minute walk from the apartment so nearby towns and cities can easily be reached via rail. There’s also a taxi rank in close proximity to the train station.
There are plenty of bus routes throughout Durham. Hop on the Arriva 6 route to visit Barnard Castle or the number 22 which travels through Seaham and Sunderland. Located on the second floor of 52 Old Elvet to the front of the building, The Langley boasts two large bedrooms and a luxuriously equipped bathroom – but that is not all.
It also offers the most sought-after commodity in the entire city; views of the Cathedral itself. From the windows of their elegant kitchen living rooms, guests can admire this magnificent monument in all its Norman splendour – these truly are rooms with a view.
When work began on The Langley, the removal of false walls uncovered a wealth of original features – such as a fireplace, cornicing and woodwork. Hidden from view for at least 50 years, they have now been fully restored as a highlight of this lovely apartment.
