More than 200 years old, this semi-detached barn conversion retains many original features and has been sympathetically and lovingly restored. Set in the grounds of the owners’ working farm, it is surrounded by 232 acres of natural, unspoilt farmland with views across to Roseberry Topping and the Cleveland Hill. The area is a walkers delight, with bridle paths and cycle tracks starting from the doorstep. This is a perfect location from which to explore the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire. Great Ayton is just one and a half miles away, centred on the banks of the River Leven, it is a wonderful place for picnics and feeding the ducks, and the streets are lined with tea rooms and fascinating shops. Captain James Cook was born here and a visit to the museum is a must. Pop into the famous Suggits Ice Cream Shop and take a stroll along the river, or drive over the heather clad moors and visit The Moors National Park Centre and quaint little villages tucked away in the valleys.
The market town of Guisborough hosts two weekly markets and is home to the Ancient Priory Ruins, where the remains are regarded amongst the finest surviving examples of early Gothic architecture in England. The pretty Georgian town of Stokesley has a monthly farmers market and an agricultural show in September. Golfers can enjoy a driving range or a round of golf on the 9 hole course, or for the whole family there’s crazy golf, foot golf and The Pinchinthorpe Walkway Centre, a brilliant place for both children and adults.
Further afield you can discover Castleton, Rosedale, known for its Abbey, Lealhome, with its picnic areas along the river and Goathland, where the TV series ’Heartbeat’ was filmed. Aboard the steam train and take a memorable journey through the glorious Esk Valley. Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a traditional Victorian seaside resort with sandy beaches and quaint shops. Further along the coast there are the fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay, then a little further again are Sandsend and the Ancient Sea Port of Whitby, all of which are within easy driving distance.

Lovely barn conversion on a working farm. The cottage has a small but very well equipped kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms and a good sized bathroom with walk in shower. Pretty village of Great Ayton a few minutes drive away. Good pubs which are good for food, small Co-Op supermarket, butchers, and a couple of takeaways and for those that enjoy walking, plenty of opportunity in this area. We would definitely return.

We had a lovely short break between Christmas and New year. The accommodation was perfect; spacious, clean, quiet and cosy.The hosts, very kindly provided a welcome basket and had decorated with Christmas trees and fairy lights. The only slight negative was the WIFi! We could hotspot from our phones for the TV, so not really a problem for us. The stunning views were far more interesting.We will be rebooking in the future.

We had a lovely family stay here over New Year, visiting with kids - 6, 5 and 1 year old for 4 nights. The stable was beautiful with everything we needed. The older boys got their own room and there was plenty of space for the travel cot in our bedroom. The under floor heating was fantastic as and it was always very warm and cosy. Our kids wake at 5.30 so we always managed to be up before the animals, but it was nice to see and hear them in the mornings whilst we had our breakfast! The stable is in a great location. We drove easily to Stockton for shopping and restaurants, Whitby, Saltburn-on-sea and explored the local area. Fantastic views and perfect location to climb Roseberry Topping. We intended to do so but it was so cold (-2) and did not think it would be suitable for the baby. We will very likely return in the summer months so we can climb the Topping!
