Charlton Cottage in Bamburgh is a well-loved property praised for its prime location, cosy comfort, and thoughtful touches like a welcome bottle of wine. Guests enjoy the proximity to the beach, castle, and local eateries, as well as the private parking. While some maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests looking forward to returning.
Most guests found Charlton Cottage to be clean and well-presented, though there were a few reports of areas needing attention, such as dirty carpets and sofa covers. The majority of feedback, however, suggests a satisfactory level of cleanliness.
The cottage's location is consistently praised for being central and convenient, with easy access to Bamburgh Castle, the beach, and local amenities. It is considered one of the property's strongest assets.
Guests describe the cottage as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with a homely feel and comfortable beds. Some minor comments about soft mattresses and a damp smell in one room slightly affect the score.
The property is well-equipped with a large kitchen, secure parking, and a dishwasher. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as a broken kettle, a wobbly wet room floor, and a non-functioning radiator, indicating room for improvement.
The provision of a welcome bottle of wine and a Christmas tree for festive stays are appreciated gestures, showing thoughtfulness. However, it is important to note that such personal touches may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

The village’s sweeping sandy beaches and dramatic fortress - Bamburgh Castle - make Bamburgh one of Northumberland’s major visitor attractions. The castle can be seen for miles and dominates this part of the county’s coastline. Today it remains home to the family of the great Victorian industrialist Lord Armstrong, and is open to the public on a daily basis. Although overshadowed by the great castle, Bamburgh village is picturesque with neat grey stone cottages facing a manicured village green. There are excellent pubs, hotels with restaurants and a small selection of village shops. There are golf courses in Bamburgh and nearby Seahouses, and within easy reach are more wide sandy beaches, lovely fishing villages, stunning castles and coastal islands to explore along the dramatic Heritage Coast. There are numerous other attractions also a short drive away, including the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens and the historic walled border town, Berwick-upon-Tweed. A superb base for exploring Northumberland.

Ideal position in the middle of the village (with much appreciated off-road parking) for access to the magnificent Castle, fabulous beach & welcoming pubs/eateries. The weather was very kind to us & we enjoyed walks out with our dog every day.

Good position within the village- close to pubs and restaurants. Bit of an issue with the electric gate sticking shut but this was dealt with promptly- probably just needs a full service. Would definitely recommend the cottage.

We visited a lot of the areas attractions and walked miles along the lovely beaches taking in the excellent scenery. We have stayed there before and I am sure that we will stay there again. A fantastic experience.
