About this property

Cornhill-on-Tweed 3.8 miles. Bakers Cottage, a characterful single-storey retreat, rests in Crookham near Cornhill-on-Tweed, on the edge of Northumberland National Park. Perfect for couples and their four-legged companions, this historic building offers a gateway to the Cheviots, the Heritage Coastline, and the Scottish Borders, with easy access from the nearby road making spontaneous day trips and scenic drives a breeze. Step through the charming entrance, where the tiled floor and exposed beams hint at the building’s past, and the rustic fireplace feature invites you to pause and settle in. The open-plan living space unfolds with a sense of flow and comfort, where a mounted TV and vibrant artwork add warmth and personality. Prepare leisurely breakfasts in the well-equipped kitchen, then linger over coffee at the circular dining table, perhaps with a thoughtful welcome that may include fresh eggs from the owner. The double bedroom, carpeted for comfort, offers a peaceful outlook over the garden tended by the owner, its tranquillity enhanced by the surrounding rural character and nearby walking trails. After a day of exploring, retreat to the stylish shower room, where bold wallpaper and a large walk-in shower provide a refreshing contrast to the countryside calm. Outside, the communal grounds, neatly tended by the owner, invite slow strolls and quiet moments. Settle on a bench beneath wide skies, watching the light shift across the landscape, or let your dog roam freely while you take in the sounds of nature. As dusk falls, the garden becomes a place of stillness, where the scent of grass and the rustle of leaves frame the perfect end to a day in the countryside. The courtyard was secure but had two endlessly barking schnauzer dogs at a window whenever anyone appeared in the yard never mind letting our dogs out for a wander. The pictures suggested a grass area adjacent to the cottage which looked ideal. The sheep in the adjacent field were fine but the free range poultry sometimes in that area clearly precluded us from going there with the dogs. We just wanted somewhere to pop the dogs for a few minutes, a busy immediately adjacent road made made any walk more of an ordeal. We left after one night. Bill

    Would highly recommend this location.

Short walk to good Pub. Good basic property. Wifi/internet poor - connection to router kept disconnecting. Would benefit from mop and bucket to keep floor clean and a door mat. A bit more local information would help, particularly for dog walks. Could never get hot water at kitchen sink.
