Cornhill-on-Tweed 3.8 miles. The Coach House is nestled in Northumberland’s countryside in the charming village of Crookham near Cornhill-on-Tweed. A historic building, it is recognised as the oldest unfortified building in Northumberland. This wonderful holiday home benefits from an array of characterful features paying homage to its vivid history, including original stone flooring, gothic windows, Grade II listed staircase and doors, and exposed beams, and a wonderful setting close to Northumberland National Park and the Scottish Borders; the perfect setting for families or friends looking to explore the North with three of their beloved canine companions. Walk down the path with lawn either side to this handsome stone exterior, a first glimpse of the charm and character that awaits inside. Head into the fully-equipped kitchen where you can rustle up tasty meals for the whole family that can be enjoyed as a group around the dining table. The kitchen features wooden beams and stylish lighting, and you might even find fresh eggs left by the owner, perfect for whisking up a fluffy omelette or whipping up a storm with a hearty breakfast. Settle into the sitting room, where plush seating, a TV, and warm lighting invite you to curl up with a good book or enjoy a quiet evening by the fire. Here, exposed wooden beams, a bay window, reflect the building’s heritage, whilst the tartan carpet and artwork on the walls add to the inviting atmosphere. Walk across the tartan carpet from the sitting room to the dining room, where you’ll find a bay window, a Gothic-style pointed arch window, and matching tartan flooring, all contributing to the home’s distinctive style. Gather here for long, laughter-filled dinners or quiet morning coffees as sunlight filters through the historic windows. When the evening draws to a close, head inside to wash off the day in either the ground-floor shower room or the first-floor bathroom. Ascend the tartan carpeted stairs to discover five well-appointed bedrooms; choose from a king-size with en-suite, two king-sizes and two ground-floor king-sizes. Some bedrooms feature exposed beams and tartan carpet, continuing the building’s character throughout the home. Sink into soft bedding and let the peaceful countryside hush lull you to sleep. Enjoy a warm cup of tea on the patio as birdsong drifts through the air, and just beyond it, two acres of shared paddocks stretch out, ideal for dogs to roam and children to explore. These grounds are often lovingly manicured by the owner, who takes quiet pride in their upkeep. The open layout connects seamlessly to walking routes that wind through the surrounding countryside and across the border, while the soft sounds of nearby animals and rustling leaves enhance the sense of tranquillity. It’s a space for wandering, playing, and reconnecting with nature. Escape to The Coach House, where timeless charm meets countryside calm. The house suited all our needs as we had 3 generations staying and Darren was very helpful when we asked about specific needs as the oldest was 90. Great location for seeing the area. Welcome pack was really appreciated. We would definitely recommend and are looking at rebooking shortly. Paul
