Haltwhistle 4 miles. This charming, hand-made, timber-built shepherd's hut provides an unusual alternative holiday retreat in a peaceful, rural setting. Nestling just above the valley of the South Tyne river, its location, set close to the owners home, affords stunning views towards the hills.
This shepherds hut provides cosy open plan studio accommodation with a king-size bed, two basket chairs and a little table. There is a separate shower room which includes a modern shower, hand basin and WC. The woodburning stove with integrated oven is perfect for those chilly evenings, and the small kitchen has a double hob and a fridge. What could be nicer than rustling up some beans on toast, turning down the lights and gazing through the stable door to take in a sky brilliantly lit with stars?
To the south, the North Pennines rise up towards the town of Alston and beyond into an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The hut itself sits in its own enclosed field which has been planted with trees to suit this area of Northumberland, and whilst the meadow grass is kept cut close to the hut, the rest of the field is left to nature. A small brook crosses the field, gently wending its way down to one of the tributaries of the Tyne.
The surrounding area offers excellent cycling, walking and fishing, easy access to Hadrian's Wall, Kielder forest and water, and the Heritage Coast making this the perfect spot for touring or getting back to nature and experiencing the pleasure of peace and solitude at its very best.
Known as the 'Centre of Britain', the small market town of Haltwhistle is a great place from which to explore both Northumberland and Cumbria. One of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall is only a mile to the north with various museums, forts and milecastles to be seen. This truly is magnificent walking, riding and cycling country, with various bridleways and cycle routes passing rivers, forests, castles and of course, Hadrian's Wall.
