Pick up the Northumberland Coast Path in Amble and follow it in either direction to take in the dramatic scenery. Venture 2 miles into Warkworth, with its medieval castle, and a further 1 mile to spend time on its beautiful, sandy beach. Head into Alnwick, 9.5 miles away, where there is another castle, this one familiar from scenes from the Harry Potter films and Downton Abbey TV shows. Make your way inside the welcoming house at ground-floor level via a lobby and then the hall to discover bright, contemporary accommodation. Here, there is access to a downstairs WC. The rest of this floor encompasses the impressive, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, with its sleek grey colour scheme and French doors to the garden.
