Bede's Rest is a spacious and well-located cottage in Amble, praised for its comfortable beds, generous living areas, and proximity to shops, harbour, and beaches. Guests appreciate the dog-friendly enclosed yard and the property's suitability for families and groups. While the house is generally clean and well-equipped, some guests noted minor maintenance issues and occasional lapses in cleanliness. The lack of a consistent welcome pack and small touches could be improved, but overall, the property offers excellent value and a great base for exploring Northumberland.
Most guests found the property clean and tidy, with modern bathrooms and fresh bedding. However, several reviews mention dust, cobwebs, pet odours, and occasional stained linens, indicating inconsistency in cleaning standards.
The location is highly praised, with easy access to Amble's town centre, harbour, shops, and beaches. Guests found it ideal for exploring Northumberland and appreciated the convenience of nearby amenities.
Guests consistently highlight the spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and ample seating. The house is warm and well-suited for families and groups, with only minor suggestions for mattress toppers or blackout curtains.
The property is well-equipped with modern bathrooms and a good kitchen, but some guests noted missing or broken items (e.g., oven trays, lightbulbs, coffee machine), lack of instructions for appliances, and minor maintenance issues. The yard could benefit from some attention.
Some guests received small welcome gifts such as wine or tea, but many reported no welcome pack despite it being advertised. Essentials like toilet paper and hand soap were sometimes missing. Please note that gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed.

Amble is known as ‘the friendliest port’ and the locals embrace this. The harbour is home to a busy Sunday market popular with locals and visitors, and here you can also peruse the cute pod-style shopping outlets. The harbour area has two great fish and chip shops, and a couple of more upmarket restaurants specialising in fresh fish. Boat trips to Coquet Island can also be taken here. From the harbour, the views towards Warkworth Castle are lovely on a clear day and you can walk to Warkworth from Amble along past the marina and river. Nearby Warkworth is a pretty, picture postcard village dominated by its castle which sits at the top of the village. The local pubs and cafés are all well worth a visit too.
Amble is close to the edge of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching along the beautiful coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed, with miles of golden beaches and castles. Be sure to visit Holy Island during your stay. The historic town of Alnwick is only 10 miles away, where you can visit the Duke of Northumberland’s home at Alnwick Castle, more famed for featuring in the Harry Potter films as well as a Downton Abbey Christmas edition.
Northumberland is also home to a magnificent Gold Tier International Dark Sky Park. Travel west to Hadrian’s Wall towards Corbridge, easily reachable from Amble. Golf can also be found nearby. Beach 250 yards. Shop 700 yards, pub and restaurant 175 yards.

Had a lovely few days at Bedes Rest, Amble. The property was very spacious and very clean. Everything you needed was provided, both for humans and their 4 legged friends. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds were unbelievably comfortable. The main row of shops, cafes and restaurants was less than 5 minutes walk and there was a large field/dog walking area about 3 minutes walk away.If I were to be picky, it was advertised as having a Welcome pack, however this was nowhere to be seen and really annoyed my husband (for some reason!) When we left we tried to use the hoover under the stairs but it was broken so we had to do our best with a brush. All in all though, a fantastic house, location and holiday. We would definitely stay again.

We were very pleased with the accommodation. There was lots of space for two couples and a baby. The kitchen was well equipped and the whole property was clean. Only downside was the garden/yard which was in need of a bit of TLC.
