Not exactly the warm welcome we had hoped for when we arrived. The hot tub was clap cold and the house was no better. There were no instructions as to what to do with either. After checking all the radiators and fiddling with the thermostat I eventually went to the boiler where I realised I needed to switch it on. I contacted the owner about the hot tub, he supplied some wood and one fire lighter. He said it would be about three hours to heat it up. After an hour I gave up trying to light it. He said I should have told him I wanted to use it. Who pays over the odds for a holiday let so you can have a hot tub and then not use it??? The final grievance is the WiFi which was hopeless. Had to message the owner to get the password, in the absence of any information about the house. The WiFi only worked in the front porch. I hate being negative, but I feel the house failed to meet expectations. On the positive side it is in a great place for seeing the county, Ellington is lovely and quiet. The pub is very hospitable and dog friendly and the food is great. The coast is a short drive away. The house is lovely and warm, very cosy, and comfortable when heated. But it needs to be more guest friendly with the information pack and what the guests find on arrival.

Seen a review since we booked this holiday from a lady call Michelle and agree with all her comments: clean and tidy, Wifi not working, instructions/useful information/welcome pack not available, heating system - we had to go to the boiler itself to manage this, no privacy and a small double bed. On top of that the woodburning hot tub was a nightmare, no instructions, one basket of logs (not enough), 2 firelighters and 7 damp matches that wouldn't light. Did inform the owner that we will use it everyday including when we arrive so expecting it to be lit and warming up. The owner responding eventually giving us instructions but were away and couldn't provide any further logs for 2 days. Didn't use first night (too late) we did the second. Took hours to warm up but luckily we purchased more wood, fire lighters and a gas lighter. Didn't enjoy it so didn't use after that. Our main reason for booking this cottage was the hot tub. Wifi couldn't find the unit to reboot the system so as the owners live next door it looks like it's shared which explains the very poor signal. So used our data but couldn't watch netflix etc. These days Wifi is a big issue for holiday makers so not good. Our dog not allowed in the back garden only front which is ridiculous. Made the decision mid holiday to leave and continued the remainder of our holiday in a different location.

Firstly, the positives - clean and tidy, garden perfect for our little dog and the beds were comfortable. Now the negatives, the WiFi wouldn’t stay connected for us and when I messaged the owner, her husband came knocking at the door and basically said it was because we were with O2 and there was nothing wrong with the wifi - but then said BT were coming out at the end of the month to look at it!We had an early morning wake up on the Saturday to move our car to allow a scaffolding lorry access. No information book on how to operate the appliances, hot tub, heating. Had to resort to messaging the owner who had gone away, about the heating and didn’t receive a reply until the next day by which time the weather had warmed up again. Very basic (4 of each cutlery) kitchen supplies. 4 towels and one hand towel provided. No tables in the lounge for a cuppa, we had to resort to using our cool box. No privacy. Owners park their car right outside the back bedroom window so you can’t get dressed without closing the roller blind. Glass in front doors is clear not obscure and opposite the bathroom door. Shower was scalding hot and couldn’t be adjusted. And the bed is definitely a double, not a 5ft king size.
