Captain’s Rest is an exceptional property located a stones throw from the beach and harbour at Seahouses. This delightful holiday home has been finished to a high standard, offering a sense of luxury to a group getaway; Captain’s Rest is ideal for a family gathering to enjoy Northumberland’s coastlines. The accommodation is spacious yet comfortable for all to enjoy with the master suite located in the separate annex across the garden. Externally there is parking for two cars and to the rear of the property there’s a large enclosed garden both lawned and paved making this a very enjoyable space. When you are ready to start your Northumberland adventure, you will not be disappointed with Seahouses, it is home to an array of amenities including some fantastic restaurants, cafés, and shops. There are also a range of exciting activities such as horse riding at the nearby stables, a round of golf at the towns 18-hole course or hit the waves and take part in some adrenaline pumping water sports.
Take a boat trip to the nearby Farne Islands, home to an abundance of quirky wildlife, including puffins and seals, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of the dolphins as they play in the water. Lace up your walking boots and follow the Northumberland Coast Path to explore the hidden gems of the fabulous coastline, recognized as an area of outstanding natural beauty, boasting panoramic views across the water as you pass sweeping beaches, rocky headland, quaint seaside towns and dramatic ruined castles. Further inland is the delightful market town of Alnwick, home to Alnwick Castle, famously known as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from Harry Potter; take a scenic stroll through the towns beautifully maintained formal gardens or explore the fascinating history on display at Bailiffgate Museum. We had a lovely stay! The house is in a great location for exploring Northumberland, situated in a lovely quiet area. The house itself was really spacious, which was perfect for our group of 8. It’s quite rare to find somewhere that accommodates 8 people and a dog, especially with no additional charge for bringing a dog, which was a massive bonus! There was also plenty of driveway space for our 3 cars, and the house had everything we needed throughout our stay.The only downside was the cleanliness. The property could really benefit from a thorough deep clean, particularly the annexe. There were squashed spiders left on the bedroom walls that clearly hadn’t been cleaned off, which wasn’t particularly pleasant. We also noticed the rubber seal on the oven was broken, something we’d actually seen mentioned in previous reviews before our stay, so it was disappointing that this still hadn’t been fixed.Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and the house was ideal for our group. It just needs a little more attention to cleaning and general maintenance. That being said, for a dog-friendly property, it wasn’t bad at all, and we would still recommend it for larger groups visiting Northumberland!

The house was a good size and provided enough space for our party and two dogs. It was very well equipped. The only downside was that it could really do with a lick of paint and redecorating. Wallpaper was coming down in the dining area and the sofas needed a good clean but we would certainly go back again as it was in an ideal location for the town of Seahouses and only a ten minute walk to local pubs & restaurants.

Such a shame since it was a belated 90th birthday celebration but the accommodation was anything but welcoming. Admittedly the bedrooms and bedlinen and bathrooms were clean and the kitchen very well equipped. But it was drab tatty & smelly. Needs decorating. I had read previous reviews and thought ‘ how bad could it be’ but we had peeling wallpaper, filthy and I mean filthy windows, stair carpet that belonged in a coal house bird muck on the windows that had been there all summer. Dark lounge room with any light obscured by an overgrown tree. Such a disappointment since we were imagining evenings in playing games and enjoying the space. Instead we were sitting on car blankets. It is dog friendly. And that’s what we could smoo. That and damp. We never used the annexe it was so univiting. Absolutely nothing like the pictures. NOTHING!!! Location was great. Oh …. and dog poo on the grass.
