About this property

Rothbury 2 miles. Boasting panoramic views of the Cheviot Hills, the Coquet Valley and the picturesque town of Rothbury, Leazes Cottage near the beautiful hamlet of Newtown in Northumberland, enjoys a stunning rural location which is perfect for a relaxing country holiday for a family or group of walkers.

This quaint traditional cottage offers direct access to the stunning Northumberland National Park and Simonside through the garden gate with the wrap-around gardens a particular feature. Safe for children (and pets, though we ask you to keep dogs on a lead on the adjoining farmland), the cottage provides fabulous views of the scenery and surrounding fields which are often populated by sheep and local wildlife.

Inside, the cottage gives guests all the home comforts any discerning traveller would expect with a spacious living and dining room, complete with leather armchairs, a games table and large farmhouse dining table. The television can connect to a wider choice of entertainment options through integrated WiFi and this is a space you can imagine spending lots of time during your stay, whether it’s relaxing next to the open fire after a tiring day of exploring the countryside and local attractions or simply zoning out in front of the TV.

When it comes to preparing meals, the kitchen is fully fitted with all the mod cons with equipment including an electric hob and oven, a microwave oven, two fridges and a washing machine, so all your needs have been catered for. An additional space which is great for getting away from the hustle and bustle of the main house is the conservatory which offers stunning 180 degree views of the countryside, making it the ideal spot for birdwatchers and star gazers. There is no light pollution at Leazes Cottage so makes for magnificent night time astronomy.

There are two well-presented bedrooms which offer a calming sanctuary to rest your weary heads after all that fresh air and a family bathroom with a shower and bath completes the accommodation.

Leazes Cottage enjoys a superb location just a short distance from the vibrant market town of Rothbury which is popular with walkers and offers a good selection of shops and eateries as well as a golf course, tennis courts and bike hire. Places worth visiting in the region include Alnwick Castle, Wallington Hall, Hadrian’s Wall and Kielder Reservoir and Forest. The area is renowned for its miles of unspoilt, sandy beaches so pack a picnic and head out for the day travelling along the stunning Northumberland Coast which is a designated Area of Outstanding Beauty. Towns worth visiting in the area include Alnwick, Morpeth, Alnmouth and Warkworth. A stay at Leazes Cottage promises a holiday to remember in a superb location.

The capital of Coquetdale, Rothbury lies on the north bank of the famous salmon and trout river, the Coquet, and is dominated by the heather clad Simonside Hills. It is an attractive, small market town and its proximity to Northumberland’s National Park ensures excellent local walking. Stone houses, typical of the region, line the town’s steep main streets and there is a good range of shops on offer. With a golf course, public tennis courts and cycle hire close by and a variety of great houses and gardens to explore, including Cragside, Alnwick Castle (home of the Duke of Northumberland), Wallington Hall and a host of famous castles, this great location has plenty to offer. Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder Reservoir and Forest and the sandy beaches and dunes of the coast are also within easy driving distance.

The 360 degree views from the fully enclosed garden are amazing. A lovely place in a lovely part of the world. Rothbury is 5 minutes away by car and under an hour via a nice (sometimes muddy) walk. The cottage is cozy and welcoming with the standout feature being the large, comfortable conservatory with sweeping views of the Cheviots, the valley and Rothbury. Great place!

No tea towels that we could find. We had to buy one from the village. Otherwise all ship shape. A calm and restful holiday. Thank you.

We particularly like the conservatory which is our favourite room, and has lovely views. We are regular visitors and will return again soon.
