Stepping inside, local artwork adorns the walls, and the interior is tastefully decorated with a nautical theme. Dating back to the 1880’s this is a characterful old miners’ cottage. The living room is at the front of the property with a sofa and armchairs around the cosy wood burner. Enjoy home cooked meals together in the open plan kitchen with dining table perfect for two. Upstairs is the bedroom with a double bed and large double wardrobes for your belongings. The shower room has a large modern double shower, ideal for freshening up after a long day on the beach. Here you are in the perfect location to enjoy the great outdoors. The village of Skinningrove is undiscovered by most tourists and is peaceful all year round. It is a quaint little bay, with neighbouring Cattersty Sands just a short walk away. This is the perfect choice for those looking for a tranquil beach holiday away from the crowds. The village is mostly inhabited by locals, with a little café, a village shop as well as a fish n’ chip shop. For those who love the coast, there are some wonderful beaches nearby to discover, either on foot along the Cleveland Way, which is a walking trail along the cliff tops, or by car.

Saltburn is a surfers’ paradise, with an iconic pier and trendy bars and restaurants. Staithes has undeniable charm; this village huddles around the shoreline, with fishing boats sailing out from the harbour. Runswick Bay is gorgeous, with sweeping golden sand, perfect for a scenic stroll taking in the fresh sea breeze, and Whitby is just a 30-minute drive away. This seafaring town has a fascinating history, with the abbey overlooking the cobbled streets, independent shops and quirky cafés. Visit the museums, ride a boat out of the harbour or simply take in the sights and enjoy award-winning fish n’ chips.

The North York Moors National Park is also on the doorstep, with ancient forests, miles of heather-clad hills and valleys, and lovely villages and walking trails. The many local events include Staithes’ art festival, Saltburn’s food festival, and Whitby’s regatta as well as the famous Goth Weekend. The big event on Skinningrove’s calendar is bonfire night in November, when residents build a huge wooden sculpture on the seafront, which is set alight after a spectacular firework show. Each season has its highlights, from impressive waves crashing on the beach in winter, spring wildflowers on woodland walks, glorious sunny summer days on the beach, or purple moorland as the heather bursts into bloom, then taking in the autumnal colours before warming up beside a crackling fire in a choice of cosy country pubs.

Lovely little cottage, which is only a 5 minute walk to the beach. I would definitely recommend and would love to book again one day.

Had a lovely few days at cottage, sea at one end of street, and park and pub at the other. Beautiful and clean, well equipped. Could do with a cosy sofa to sit back in though.

This cottage was clean, with a good shower and a comfortable bed. The towels and bedding all good. There is a well equipped kitchen, with a small table with not very comfortable chairs (plastic). The lounge had fairly comfortable furniture, with a very large light hanging down that when it was lit it badly reflected into the strange artwork, distracting TV viewing. Using just the smallest lamp, it was hard to see the remote. All in all this made relaxing to view Netflix not that comfortable. There is plenty of reading material and good local information. The accessibility to the cottage isn’t good. It’s by the rear alleyway. Entry to the rear door via a path and by crossing other properties with no lighting at dusk and the footpaths all overgrown old block paved covered in weeds, with a steep rear step was by no means ideal. Access to use the front door is only from the inside, you can NEVER leave or re-enter. A bit like Hotel California! For these reasons we cannot recommend. The place needs a lock on the front door, to come and go, better lighting and comfortable kitchen chairs.
