Resting in the peaceful hamlet of Keekle, on the western boundaries of the Lake District, is this charming, end of row barn conversion, Riverside Cottage. With the Georgian town of Whitehaven and the delightful coastline just a few miles away, this holiday retreat is perfect for families and friends! Step inside and take comfort in the living area, boasting a spacious open-plan layout, with a fabulous kitchen with integrated appliances. The lounge area has two plush leather sofas for you to spread out on, as the delicious aroma of food fills the interior. A small dining table is set to one side and offers a space to enjoy mealtimes and family board games.

Climb the stairs to find the bedrooms, the first being a king, the second bedroom offers a single bed for an additional guest. Each bedroom has been neutrally decorated with light colours and hosts ample storage for your personal belongings. Look out the Juliet balcony and take in the tranquil views; with a gentle river running by and rolling hills in the distance, you will instantly be at ease. Leading on from the bedrooms is the beautiful modern bathroom containing a bath, WC, basin and a heated towel rail. There is a delightful village pub around a 5 minute walk away from the property called The Keekle Inn, which boasts a beer garden and serves authentic wood-fired pizzas.

If you're looking a little further afield, why not stop for a rest at the Fox and Hounds, which serves food and a selection of real ales, before taking off to explore the surrounding countryside routes, including the stunning Ennerdale Water Circular walk that is good for all skill levels. Accessed only on foot, it has no public roads, offering you the peace and tranquillity you crave! Further outdoor activity can be enjoyed within the Lake District National Park, with the commanding Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England, just 20 miles away. Why not take in the stunning landscapes from a different perspective on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Steam Railway, running a seven-mile line from Ravenglass to Dalegarth Station near Boot, in the Valley of Eskdale.

Explore the rugged coastline and you are likely to come across the town of Whitehaven, providing a great selection of pubs and restaurants, for that fine dining experience, with a plethora of independent shops and supermarkets for gathering any essentials. There is also a public swimming pool and gym. Nearby is Whitehaven Golf Club which offers an excellent bar and meal service and can be reached in less than 5 minutes by car. St Bees is a short drive away, where you can find a fine beach and many wonderful walks along the clifftops, which are also home to one of England’s most important seabird colonies.

Here you can sit in the beachfront cafe and enjoy an ice cream made by Hartley's of Egrement. Those history buffs will make time to visit Egremont Castle, Muncaster Castle a historic and Grade II listed building. Riverside Cottage offers everything you could require for much-needed family escape, whatever time of year.

The small town of Cleator Moor rests within the English county of Cumbria is Cleator Moor, resting between the Lake District National Park and the coastline. Within the town, you will find a number of amenities, including a handful of pubs, shops and other small businesses, as well as a Mart Square, which features three sculptures by Conrad Atkinson, a local artist. Attractions within the area include the West Cumbria Cycle Network, which form a portion of the C2C Cycle Route, as well as the beaches of Providence Bay Beach, Tanyard Bay Beach and Fleswick Bay.

    Lemon cake and pint of milk was a nice touch and needed after a 3 hr drive. Nice base for visiting whitehaven, St bees and the lakes, we were particularly impressed with St bees with its priory and the man of St Bees.
