Allonby (1.5 miles) is a picturesque coastal village with a good choice of places to eat and drink, along with some wonderfully secluded sandy beaches. The harbour town of Maryport (5 miles) is home to the Lake District Coast Aquarium, the Wave Centre, Maryport Maritime Museum and Senhouse Roman Museum. Travelling inland you can explore Bassenthwaite Lake (16.5 miles) and the historic town of Cockermouth (10.5 miles).
