Wild Boar Cottage is a charming three-bedroom, three-bathroom bungalow perched on the highest point of Long Rigg Estate, offering a peaceful retreat with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The spacious open-plan living area features a cosy lounge with a log burner, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploration. French doors lead to a sun-drenched stone patio, an ideal spot to enjoy meals al fresco or unwind with a glass of wine while enjoying the views. The well-equipped kitchen-dining area includes modern appliances, ensuring a comfortable stay for guests. Each of the three bedrooms has its own En-suite bathroom, offering convenience and privacy. The master bedroom enjoys tranquil garden views, providing a serene atmosphere. Outside, a gravel path leads to a private patio, surrounded by a sloping garden that bursts with bluebells in Spring, creating a picturesque setting.

This property is advertised (and charged) as a 5 star. In my view this is debatable. Starting with the positives: beautiful outlook onto the howgill fells and a mile away from Sedbergh and its shops and pubs. The decor is modern and the living area is comfortable. The showers were great. En-suite each bedroom which were lovely. Towels fluffy. Negatives: not shown in pics that the other 2 properties on the site are very close, so much so you are looking at half of the back of the big house and into their garden. The other holiday rental to the left very close too. Advertised as having a back garden…it’s a picnic bench on concrete then a steep slope of overgrown grass and weeds. There was a frying pan in the cupboard…which didn’t work on the induction hob so couldn’t use. There was no mirror at all in one of the bedrooms including in the en-suite. Bulb missing from one of the lamps. One of the bedrooms had blond hairs on the bathroom floor and used hairbrushes with blond hairs left behind from previous users. Greasy finger prints on oven so cleaning not 5* standard. A bugbear was no washing machine…on one of the booking websites it states there was one, but there isn’t. When spending a week in Yorkshire dales with 2 kids and wet weather it would be useful to be able to wash clothes. The other issue that makes this not a 5* property is nothing is provided…no welcome pack of tea coffee etc, no oil, no salt and pepper, foil etc. no logs, starters even matches for the log burner (we have stayed at plenty of places with log burners that always provide at least one use worth). One bin bag provided that was too small to fit in the bin! 3* properties we have stayed at provided a lovely welcome pack which makes a difference. Overall we had a great week but the property wasn’t as expected according to the description. Few changes would make this a nice place to stay.

Outside seating area inadequate and no proper garden. Not enough mirrors and no chairs or dressing tables in the bedrooms. Ensuite bathrooms were fine and up to date.
