A pretty, semi-detached cottage, on the edge of the old village of Scales, just a mile from the sea and 4 miles from the ever-popular market town of Ulverston. This charming Scales cottage provides warm, welcoming accommodation, with a spacious sitting room, cosy multi-fuel stove, two delightful bedrooms and a small, well-equipped kitchen with useful porch area. In a quiet and peaceful area, with fabulous Lakeland countryside and the beautiful beaches and coastline of the Furness Estuary on the very doorstep, this Scales holiday cottage is close to the festival town of Ulverston, with its many pubs and restaurants and bi-weekly market, whilst the sandy beaches of the Furness coast and Coniston, with its mountain biking, climbing and watersports, are just a short drive away. With Eskdale Railway, the World of Beatrix Potter and the fabulous Lake District National Park all within easy reach, this is a wonderful holiday location and a welcoming Scales cottage, any time of year.
The small village of Scales is situated on the Cumbrian Peninsula and makes a fabulous base to explore this gem of an area. The name Scales originates from an old Norse word meaning ‘huts'. Ulveston, an ancient market town, is only four miles away and it has retained its community spirit, holding a thriving street market every Thursday and Saturday and there are many festivals throughout the year. One of the claims to fame Ulveston has is that it is the birthplace of Stan Laurel, and to commemorate their famous son there is a Laurel and Hardy Museum. The Furness Coast has unspoiled sandy beaches and bird watching opportunities and the Cumbrian national Park is within easy reach. With plenty of family attractions in the area, this a great place for a holiday.

Everything, though clean was rather lack lustre. Shower needs an anti slip mat, toilet seat loose, beds quite hard, washing machine only worked intermittently! We decided to come home 2 days early. We understand that the owner is having domestic problems but we feel that this should be reflected in the price!

It's pet friendly in the sense pets are allowed, but the garden is NOT secure we had to pull the bin across to block it off. Overall we were pleased with the cottage it was comfortable.

The cottage was great but I did feel the need to clean the kitchen, bathroom and floor before I could really relax. (Might be a 'me problem' as my hubby relaxed immediately.) Brilliant location for the coast and the lakes. The children also loved the play park in Scales. Aldingham beach was a favourite. Roanhead also beautiful. Train and boat rides on Windermere were also lovely. The kids favourite place was the Beatrix Potter Museum in Bowness. We would return!
