About this property

Barrowford 2.7 miles. Situated in the village of Barley at the foot of Pendle Hill, within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Lea View is the perfect base for exploring the Pendle area. The cottage retains all of its charm and character, whilst providing the comforts of a home from home. On arrival at the cottage, park your car along the road and step directly into a well-equipped kitchen. From here, head to the living/dining room to relax in front of the TV and light the cosy multi-fuel stove. As the evening draws to a close, choose from two well-presented bedrooms, a double and a single. In the morning, enjoy a refreshing shower or a hot soak in the bathroom which houses a bath with a shower over and a toasty heated towel rail. Savour your morning coffee out on the patio, a delightful space to get some fresh air, before setting off and exploring the area. Barley is within the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and there are two excellent country pubs within walking distance of the property, The Barley Mow, where guests can receive 10% off the bill, and the Pendle Inn, so you can enjoy a night away from the kitchen. There is also a lovely café, picnic site, a playground and Methodist church within walking distance. The Pendle area is steeped in history - The Lancashire witches came from here, and were taken for trial at Lancaster Castle; you can visit the castle and see the cells they were kept in and the original courtroom. Lancashire was the centre for cotton mills, there were several in Barley, but only part of one remains now; visit the Queen Street textile museum in nearby Burnley and learn what life was like in the cotton mills. For keen walkers there is something for every ability on the doorstep - be sure to visit the iconic Pendle Hill and see the most amazing views, you can even see Blackpool Tower on a clear day! Ogden and Blackmoss reservoirs are close by, with circular walks around both, and be sure to explore the Pendle Sculpture Trail - the sculptures are located along a well marked trail and inspired by local heritage. Those keen cyclists can explore a wide range of cycle routes, with Gisburn Forest and Stocks reservoir a short drive away and featuring natural cycling on purpose made paths, suitable for all abilities; Cycle hire is also available locally. Just under three miles away is the pretty village of Barrowford, home to a great selection of independent shops, pubs, bars and cafés, along with a Booths supermarket for any essentials. A little further afield lies the bustling market town of Clitheroe, known locally as the capital of the Ribble Valley there’s plenty to enjoy here, including the beautiful Clitheroe Castle and Museum which look down over the town and is floodlit at night. With all this, plus the Lake District National Park and the Yorkshire Dales within an hours' drive, Lea View can provide either a relaxing break or an action packed stay.

The large and characterful village of Barrowford sits on the confluence of two rivers, Pendle Water and Colne Water, where trout can often be seen leaping through the clear waters. The village has an upmarket feel, bustling with attractive 17th and 18th century farmhouses and pretty handloom weavers' cottages, while the highstreet is lined with designer fashion, attracting some of the North West's most affluent customers.
