Kirkby Lonsdale 3 miles. The thoughtful conversion of an old stone-built barn and stable block, dating back to 1746, has resulted in this wonderful detached property of much character. Situated in a pretty position next to Fleshbeck stream in the scattered hamlet of Mansergh, The Old Stables enjoys views over a wooded dell, teeming with bluebells in the spring, and even the occasional deer! Upside down to take advantage of both the pretty views and the many original exposed timbers, the conversion has been carried out to the highest possible standard including solid oak floors upstairs, and underfloor heating throughout. The open plan living area has French doors out onto a small balcony, overlooking the garden area and woods. A magnificent conversion, warm and welcoming, ideal for any time of the year. Note: This cottage is next to Refs. 916 and 9985, and a short distance from Ref. 10255, together they sleep 22.
Mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and in the heart of the Lune Valley, the attractive market town of Kirkby Lonsdale makes an excellent spot for a family vacation. Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, this lovely town holds a 13th Century market charter, a tradition that still continues every Thursday. Market day is an ideal opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town or the many 17th and 18th Century buildings that can be seen throughout the settlement. As a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, the Lune Valley is home to the medieval ‘Devil's Bridge', which can still be seen spanning the river. Throughout the area there are many quiet country lanes which are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even on horseback, and the surrounding countryside provides great facilities for tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks.

Suggested ways to improve accommodation. Sort damp musty smell in downstairs bedroom, include welcome pack and more local info from guests (comments books are often more insightful than internet info), increase capacity of hot water so doesnât go cold so quickly (we did turn up temp to max). We didnât need to use the log fire but being told logs have to purchase from a local store doesnât seem very client facing - never come across that requirement before and suggest logs should be included! By comparison to many holiday homes we have stayed at, the old stables is probably a 3-4 star property.

It felt like staying in a tree house looking out through picture windows. The property was fitted out beautifully with powerful showers and a fully equipped kitchen with a full set of Denby Delph. We couldn't have had a more relaxing, wonderful stay.
