Tram Lane Cottage is an appealing end-terrace holiday home tucked away in the much-loved market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. Well placed for couples or small families, it offers an easy-going base for exploring two of the North’s most celebrated landscapes: the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. Inside, the house is laid out for straightforward holiday living. The kitchen/diner is well equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge, and washing machine, making it easy to prepare anything from quick breakfasts to relaxed evening meals. After a day outdoors, the sitting room provides a comfortable place to unwind, whether that’s putting your feet up with a book or chatting through plans for the next day.
Upstairs, two neatly presented bedrooms offer a restful place to recharge, served by a bathroom with a bath and shower over, basin, and WC. Outside, there is a dedicated parking space on the drive and fuel, power, bed linen, and towels are all included, keeping things simple from the moment you arrive. Kirkby Lonsdale itself is one of those towns that people return to again and again. Independent shops, tearooms, and traditional pubs are all within walking distance, giving the place a lively but relaxed feel. A stroll down to the banks of the River Lune is a must, particularly at Devil’s Bridge, where waterside walks and open views make for an easy afternoon out.
The surrounding countryside offers excellent walking routes straight from the town, while those keen to roam further can head out by car into rolling Dales scenery or towards the lakes and fells of Cumbria. For a change of pace, the larger town of Kendal is easily reached by car, offering a wider range of shops, cafés, and cultural attractions. Whether your plans involve long countryside walks, gentle riverside rambles, or simply enjoying a good pub lunch, everything is well within reach. An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country".
