About this property

Tucked away in the village of Dobcross, Greater Manchester, is this superb two-bedroom Grade II listed cottage, Hawkyard's Cottage. Stemming from the 18th-century and enjoying a fabulous position right on the outskirts of the Peak District National Park, Hawkyard's Cottage is a wonderful dog-friendly dwelling for couples or a family of four, plus their two canine companions. Look forward to impressing your guests with delicious meals, cooked up in the well-equipped farmhouse kitchen/diner, featuring a handy dishwasher, garden views and TV with Freeview, ready to enjoy at the dining table for four. On warmer days, dine alfresco in the well-maintained garden with a large patio, whilst your pooches stretch their legs on the lawn. After dinner, retire to the sitting room with its exposed oak beams, garden views and period fireplace, to snuggle up in front of your favourite show on the Freeview TV. Completing the ground floor is a utility room housing a washing machine and drying rack, and a cloakroom for your convenience. Climb the stairs up to the first floor, where you can wash away the day with a soak in the bath or freshen up with a shower, before choosing from one of two beautifully appointed bedrooms, a king-size with vaulted ceiling, antique furnishings and views over Saddleworth, and a queen with antique drawers and delightful views. Explore the local village, where you can treat your loved ones to a well-deserved meal at The Navigation Inn or The Swan, followed by a leisurely stroll along the Diggle Brook or a visit to the popular Brownhill Countryside Centre with exhibitions and wildlife displays. Walking and outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of the close proximity of the Peak District National Park, where you can follow the scenic trails of Dovestone Reservoir, Broadstone Hill and the Longendale Trail. Venture further in to explore the sights of Derwent Dam, Blue John Cavern and the National Trust owned, Lyme. Uppermill rests nearby where you can tour the Saddleworth Museum & Gallery or test out your swing at the Andrew Earlam Golf course. Next stop is the popular Yorkshire town of Holmfirth, known for it's quaint streets, traditional architecture, and being the home of the BBC's 'Last of the Summer Wine'. Enjoy a day exploring the local vineyard, before choosing from a selection of pubs and restaurants to dine at, followed by a show at The Picturedrome. However, you choose to spend your time away, be sure to choose Hawkyard's Cottage as your base.

Not too far away from Bakewell and Buxton. Would certainly return to this cottage

The cottage was clean with large bedrooms and perfect for the village pubs and shop. It was also a very short walk to Uppermill with its varied shops and places to eat and the canal footpath. We would definitely stay again.

It's so warm & relaxing, views of the hills & more fantastic walks out to Castleshaw reservoir & Hill fort, and the wild walk from Dovestones to the Chew Valley reservoir & across the moor. The cottage is beautiful & even though the weather was wet we had a great time. For walkers & those who love villages that are unspoilt, it's a brilliant place to stay.
