Uppermill is one of seven villages situated amongst the 18,0000 acres of moorland hills, open fields and scenic valleys that comprise the Saddlworth area. These Pennine villages have a wool spinning and agricultural heritage dating back to the Industrial Revolution, but today Saddleworth has evolved into an attractive South Pennine and Peak District National Park area with breathtaking views and glorious stone built buildings. Uppermill is a thriving village popular with tourists with a good range of amenities including plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs, as well as a growing number of craft shops. Part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is located close to the recently restored Standedge Canal Tunnel, Britain's longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel. The canal which runs through the town provides opportunities for traffic-free walks along the towpath, fishing and boating. There is one unique sport local to Uppermill called "cobbling". It involves a barrel of cobblestones, a closed road and a bag of cement - come and visit to find out more. Saddleworth is home to a wide range of festivals and community events, the most famous of which is the Whit Friday Band contest, which attracts the UK’s and Europe’s top brass bands and was the backdrop to the film ‘Brassed Off’. The tea, coffee, toilet roll, logs for the fire and the wine were a lovely touch. Thank you. My only critique would be making it clear on the booking that this property is not suitable for those with accessibility requirements. My mum has very restricted mobility and really struggled with entering and exiting the property because of the stone steps (some of which were loose) with no handrails at all. My daughter fell on the stone pathway leading to the house, as the stones became very slippery in the rain. Again - a little clarity on the pathways to and from the property being inaccessible to some wouldâve been appreciated. The only other pointer would be some clearer instructions on how to find the property. Particularly in the dark⦠as the stated âWoolpack Innâ no longer existed and the cottage is along a (dark) pathway behind the main road it took us and our smartphones over half an hour to pinpoint the exact location of the house. With that said, the off street parking was no problem at all during our visit. We managed to park our 2 cars close to the cottage throughout. The neighbours were lovely as was the beautiful neighbourhood. I would absolutely stay again, but with additional help to get Mum up and down the steps. Thank you

For example the front door was dirty and had to be brushed down of spider webs before we could put in the key. This did not give a good first impression! And the cloakroom toilet had a leaking problem which was advised in the visitor book by the last visitors but the only solution had been to put in a mop and bucket.The shower in the main bathroom was only a truckle. We advised all of these issues to the owners on our departure in the book provided by them.
