Take a short stroll into the heart of Winchelsea, where you will find St Thomas Church pubs and restaurants, all offering a taste of the local produce.
Delve into the rich military history which is attached to the area. Camber Castle, formerly known as Winchelsea Castle, which was built by Henry viii to protect the Sussex coast against French Invaders in the 16th century. Many ruins are scattered throughout the village along with a warning beacon set upon high ground - just a stones throw from Hiham Lodge. The Rye Nature Reserve, which is only a short distance away, hosts a large range of wildlife in numerous different habitats just waiting to be discovered.
The historic towns of Hastings and Rye are both within close proximity. Hastings, to the west, is famous for its fishing and old town which offers many pubs, restaurants and activities for all ages along the promenade. Rye, to the east, has many cobbled streets with markets and 14th century towers all waiting to be discovered. These, along with the golden sandy beaches of Camber Sands, can also be found on your visit to Winchelsea. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.
