The Old Cart Shed in Hampshire offers a tranquil countryside experience on a working farm, with guests praising its beautiful setting, comfortable accommodation, and friendly owners. Many enjoyed the proximity to local attractions and the opportunity to interact with farm animals. The property is well-suited for families and those seeking a peaceful retreat.
Guests consistently noted the property as very clean and tidy, contributing to a comfortable and pleasant stay. There was a minor issue with dog waste in the grass area, but overall, the cleanliness seems to be well-maintained.
The property's location is highly appreciated for its peacefulness, proximity to the New Forest, and local amenities in Fordingbridge. Some guests mentioned the convenience of nearby attractions and the beauty of the surrounding countryside.
The reviews reflect a high level of comfort, with mentions of comfy beds and a cosy atmosphere. However, a few guests noted issues with bed sizes and the property being cold upon arrival, slightly impacting the comfort score.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a few maintenance issues such as a broken toaster and non-working towel rails. The presence of a tennis court and the farm setting were positives, but the lack of internet access and some missing amenities were noted.
While the reviews indicate that the owners are friendly and helpful, there is no specific mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches that could be consistently expected by future guests. Therefore, a score cannot be provided for this category.
West Park Farm, in the very pretty, historic village of Rockbourne is part of a working beef and arable farm. You are welcome to explore here - there is a large pond, bluebell wood and occasionally you may be able to help the owner with day to day farm tasks. There is also a hard tennis court which guests can enjoy but please bring your own racquets. The Old Cart Shed is full of character, the high raftered ceilings have exposed beams and natural wood has been used wherever possible. Pretty cottage style furnishings complement the modern bathrooms and kitchen. The bedrooms are configured for maximum versatility and include stacker beds in one of the ground floor rooms, enabling it to be used as a single or twin room. From the lounge, a handsome wooden staircase leads to a gallery bedroom tucked under the eaves. The Old Cart Shed has its own private, enclosed garden and guests are welcome to enjoy the shared seating area around the pond.
Rockbourne is a village with a pub, and a 12th century church. Home to thatched cottages and by a willow-bordered stream on the edge of the New Forest National Park, Rockbourne is rich in history with Neolithic and Bronze Age barrows, Iron Age fort and impressive Roman villa. Fordingbridge town is a short journey away, offering a wealth of shops and places to drink as well as its own museum to keep you occupied.

Itâs a working farm with animals! The house itself is lovely, well kept, comfortable beds and sofas. The enclosed garden was very small and the little paddock in front of the house with a tennis court (seen in photos of location) had young cow's grazing which was lovely to see, but was quite challenging for the dogs as they were unable to use the small garden freely. Would have been helpful to know about the low fencing. Thankfully, the farmer (owner) allowed us to walk around two large fields, which helped a lot with the dogs as they had to be kept on the lead at all times. Would have been a little better if towels were provided and maybe a pint of milk on arrival, there was a small stash of tea/coffee in little jars.

The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. Itâs very quiet. The dog was able to wander in the enclosed garden and there are walks into the woods. There were only 3 of us so lots of space inside.
