Kingfisher at Calbourne Water Mill is a luxury eco-house set within the grounds of the only working water mill on the island.
Kingfisher is built with a log cabin feel, from cedar and larch with wooden floors. These luxury homes are environmentally friendly with geo-thermal underground heating, and bio-bubble treatment for waste, which then gets converted to organic matter and fed back to the earth.
Internally, Kingfisher is furnished to a high standard. Externally, the property boasts a balcony running the length of the property with beautiful views down to the stream at the bottom of the field.
Calbourne Water Mill is one of the islands most popular attractions, set within 35 acres of countryside. As the only working water mill on the island, this is a must see attraction. Watch the traditional flour making process using the 17th century water and stone mills and if this makes you hungry you can even buy the bread on site!
Everything you will need for a fun packed holiday can be found on site including punting, miniature golf, clay play, swings, cafe and giftware. The chalk bottom river close by boasts many fish including trout, eels, carp and koi carp.
West Wight is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is the ideal spot for catching a glimpse of the local wildlife, walking or just enjoying the beautiful countryside. From here take a visit to one of the islands many attractions including Freshwater Bay, Alum Bay’s famous coloured cliffs or The Needles, one of Britain’s most famous landscapes.

Kingfisher Eco lodge at Calbourne Water Mill was fantastic setting for a family with young children. The lodge itself was very well appointed and comfortable. The lodge was super warm, gaining its heat from a ground source pump, certainly warmer than our own home in the north of England. We were welcomed after the Mill had closed by a very cheerful and helpful work member, guiding us through house before we settled in for our 10 day stay. The location is stunning, overlooking a stream and woodland. The working Mill and grounds were at our disposal to wander around. The kids were fascinated by the doves that swooped down and landed on their arms and heads while being fed. The Mill has peacocks that come and knock on the door for breakfast or pop on to the lodge balcony. Wonderfully quiet and dark at night, no light pollution. We had a great time and would recommend to any family.

Our luxury Eco house was as described and in perfect condition. The wildlife on our doorstep was amazing and so were the views. A small selection of lodge houses which meant humans traffic was minimal so relaxation was easy when at the accommodation. Plenty of safe, secure outside space to eat and socialise within the houses and a BBQ is supplied on the house's large balcony which over looks a steam and woodland. The peacocks regularly joined us for breakfast and the dives enjoyed a feed purchased from the cafe shop on site. We particularly enjoyed the on site museums which were quaint, interesting and full of antique pieces from days gone by. Use of facilities were also included which meant entry to museums (which can be wandered to through a short woodland walk). The miniature golf was still under construction and will make a lovely little addition to the facilities within the mill. I hope the site doesn't expand too much (not that I've read any plans to do this) as this would spoil the remote quintessential feel to the accommodation and surrounding grounds. Easy access to most of the island which made exploring on foot and by car easy and hassle free. A car would be recommended as the nearest shop is a 5 min car ride in Freshwater.
